I remember about a software which let's you create real player stuff. It was called real player server or something and it was not free.

you might get more info at real.com

if you can find an old version of the real audio encoder you can encode from cd and probably mp3 (though i've only done it with cds) and its free, but realaudio has upgraded to some lousy version you have to pay for so good luck finding it. it called realaudio encoder 3.1 i think.

Real Jukebox does it but not in the basic (free) edition.

You'll have to pay for the advanced version or otherwise 'obtain' it.

i work with video codecs, so i'm supposed to know this kinda stuff :p

1) You can get a free version of RealProducer at realnetworks.com. That only converts UNCOMPRESSED (and some compressed) materials such as (uncompressed) file formats like AVI, WAV, and AU, and (compressed) file formats like Windows Media Audio v2. To use it for MP3s, rip the MP3 to WAV using WinAMP or Sonique and use it in the encoder

2) You could pay 300$ like I did and you can get the professional edition which allows you to do MP3, MPEG, etc.
