hotlinking trailers

Does anybody know if official movie sites allow me to hotlink their trailers. Of course I can mail to them but do they reply?

Nobody will allow you to hotlink their files. It is considered as stealing because you are effectively stealing their bandwith. What you can do is, you can offers your users a link to download the trailer from the main site in the form of a pop-up so that they don't leave your site.

If this is a official movie site, it's aim is in my opinion to promote
the movie and to make people coming to the cinema or buying the video/DVD. They should be interested that their trailer is spread as widely as possible. There shouldn't be difference if the trailer was downloaded from their site or hotlinked from mine.
In my opinion of course but maybe you are right, lastactionhero.

also, the request for the trailer will show you were the referrer in the raw web logs. i think it would be a better idea to link to the page where it says "click here to play trailer" or something like that.
