I suggest you start saving $0.75 a month now (or 2 1/2 cents a day if you are a poor financial planner). After 12 months you'll have enough for a completely free of b.s. domain name that you can call your very own.

Chicken is giving you good advice. $8.88 is cheap. Just go to the domain registration section and read all the horror stories from people trying to escape from free domain services...

Too many sad stories. Really, I know it might seem like a good idea, but it just isn't. You won't own the domain and if the site *isn't* important to you, just get a subdomain and don't worry about it. If it *is* important to you (or might be in any way sometime), then I'd get a domain the ol' fashioned way. You young whipper snappers have it good! When I was a wee lad, we had to pay $35/yr. (two years at a time). -And we had to walk 6 miles to and from school every day (uphill both ways!) :D

I have one free domain over there. As far as I see, there comes only an exit-window when you exit your site, so the popups aren't that worse. But, it is very difficult to get a free domain name from them. They only accept a few sites, based on the content and the look. But, as some others said, you 'd better buy a domain, I did it too, because when you have a 'free domain', you have a big chance to loose it sooner or later...

I wish I'd gotten into this stuff around the time I was still playing with BBSes... Back when good domains were still available and you could get them for free... With no strings attached.
