maybe you should invest your time in a bit of therapy? ;)
notepad is possibly the best program to start with. but you'll want some learn HTML sites, but I don't know any.
when you have the hang of it (not long) you may find something like dreamweaver useful but it depends on how your mind works.
basic HTML is a piece of piss. It gets a bit more complicated when you do the fancy stuff (layers etc) but start simple and you'll get there soon enough. :)

...a piece of pissA piece of piss? I've never heard that expression before. I assume you've got to freeze it first before you can take a piece...

lol! :D
I agree with Lucifer. Go for a text editor or at least text based HTML editor (there is a slight difference :p). WYSIWYG (click away) may seem easy, but when you want to get "under the hood" you'll find that it's much harder to untangle from the WYSIWYG mess than to learn right form the beginning (ask weeper). I want syntax highlighting and better text processing features than Notetab offers though. There are bundles of text editors and special text based HTML editors out there. Start downloading and find one you like.
No use recommending one above another really. What I like may be different from what you like.

funny, where I come from this is a well used and treasured expressionThat would be Hell, right? The damned must be stupid, if they can get pieces of frozen piss so easily there's no reason why they should be burning.
On the real topic at hand, does anyone know of a program that is almost exactly like Notepad except it tells you what number line you're on? I don't want any other that fancy syntax highlightin', advanced search-and-replacein', built in Perl and PHP interpretin', browser previewin' crap, I just want to know what line I'm on.

Notepad++
loads a bit slower than Notepad but has cursor positioning. I have used this before so I would recommend it.

Other "notepad replacements"
CNet's downloads site a list of programs to supplant Notepad. I have downloaded one where multiple files can be opened within the program (although I get program errors when trying to view HTML source from IE5)! Just type in Notepad in the search box at the top of the download.com index page, *THEN enter* to view the list.

meow,
are you suggesting that people should actually read the thread. This is a ridiculous concept. What century are you living in. In this high speed age we haven't the time to read things. just post the first thing that comes into your head - it's not like anyone will read what you've said anyhow

lucifer: funny, where I come from this is a well used and treasured expressionsame here!
meow: does anyone know of a program that is almost exactly like Notepad except it tells you what number line you're on?Yes - msdos edit. Type edit at the dos prompt.

msdos edit. Type edit at the dos prompt. That's nothing like Notepad! Let me rephrase myself... no, there's no possible way to make it clearer, I'll just restate it: exactly like Notepad except it tells you what number line you're on. And that was my question, not Meow's! Although I can understand where you're coming from. Wherever there's Lucifer you'll always find Meow, the two seem to go hand-in-hand.
Where I come from and where I currently live now and anywhere I've ever been I have never heard anyone utter the words "a piece of piss". It's obviously a purposeful corruption of "a piece of pie" but it doesn't even make sense. What is it supposed to mean? One might as well say "That's as easy as a piece of OfficeDuster3: 100% Ozone Safe and Nonflammable Compressed Air in a Can" (can anyone guess what's sitting on my desk right now?)
Meow: I'm still trying to interpret the meaning of the ten rolly-eyed heads, which generally denote sarcasm but that doesn't seem to fit in your post. You've left a trail or intriguing clues that obviously lead somewhere:
1. The heads are above my quote.
2. They're looking at a comment about AceHTML.
3. My quote deals with a slightly more featured Notepad.
4. The post following is Lucifer making a poignant point about people not reading before responding...
5. ...which leads back to my comment, but since it was on the topic of frozen piss and HTML editors...
6. ...that leads to the previous posts about Dreamweaver and AceHTML.
7. Weapon stated he used Dreamweaver in the very interesting thread the you, me, and Lucifer were a part of...
8. ...because you said bad things to him about FrontPage.
That's it, the ten rolly-eyed heads are meant as a subtle but vicious insult to Weapon, aren't they? I cracked the code, and it was as easy as a piece of OfficeDuster3: 100% Ozone Safe and Nonflammable Compressed Air in a Can.
Anyway. Notepad++, looks interesting, I'll try it.

:eek:EEEEEEK! Are you blaming Lucifer and me? What have we done?
The smiles meant what Lucifer said. You asked for a simple Notepad replacement and someone suggested Dreamweaver and the ball is rolling.
[EDIT: The quote was to remind ppl what you were asking for. :D]

That's nothing like Notepad! because it doesn't run in a window?
--------------------------------------------
that was my question, not Meow's!sorry - I got confused :o
-------------------------------------------
What is it supposed to mean?the meaning is obvious - it's just often seen as a little more 'cool' (*shudders*) to say piss than pie.
And then Ali G ( lame TV 'personality')started saying it, so it's definitely cool

A 'piece of pie'? this sounds like a corruption of a 'piece of cake'!.
A piece of piss is a variation of 'piece of cake' combined with the expression 'piss easy' (as easy as having a piss) hence 'piece of piss'. It predates Ali G. (polestar) by many years
