We've been shopping around for bandwidth for quite some time now and getting quotes from third party resellers and the like but I thought it might not be a bad idea to try and post here and see what happens. We're very close on a couple of deals but wanted to try here just to see what else is out there.

We are one of the largest independatly owned media broadcasting companies in the world and are looking for quotes on bandwidth and servers to stream our radio stations out over the World Wide Web. Here's what we are looking for:

Three (3) Gbps of Bandwidth which will be bought immediately but would need to expand as necessary. You would be responsible for contacting us if we started to get close to maxing that out and we'd have the option to buy more at that time at the same price as originally quoted.

Prefered Cisco switching that would allow a sustained transfer of 10 Gbps if needed. You would need to provide a way for us to monitor the switch thru mrtg or a similar program. We'd like to be able to see sustained transfers, packetloss, etc.

Other Hardware would include:

Three (3) Dual P4 procs (Xeon) / 2 gig of Ram / Size of hard drive is unimportant / at least 1 top quality (3com/Cisco, Intel) Gigabit NIC/Linux or some form of linux running on them. Probably Debian or FreeBSB.

Three (3) Dual p4 procs (Xeon) / 2 gig of Ram/Size of hard drive unimportant / at least 1 top quality (3com/Cisco?Intel) Gigabit NIC / Windows 2003 Server Installed.

Would like have the ability to do colocation in your datacenter down the road as we may want to co-locate our physical music servers we currently own next to the other servers you would provide if this network proves reliable and we are satisfied with service (probably wouldn't happen for at least 1-4 month though). What is the price per U for something like this if it's available. We'd colocate 6 servers with a combined rack unit of 10U. This is in addition to the other servers we'd lease from you.

What is the SLA if any? We would prefer a formal written agreement signed and dated by both parties including what you'd provide us and what it would cost us per month including uptime guarantees, packetloss guarantees and ping time guarantees.

What kind of tech support could you offer us? Is there's a direct number to the NOC if there's a problem, etc.

How long would you require the contract to be?

We want require regular monthly invoices sent to us for the upcoming month (we pay in advance) and a company check would be cut in a timely matter. Is this acceptable?

We are looking at launching this project close to the first to the middle of January. Is this an acceptable time frame and could you deploy a project this big in that period of time?

Are you willing to give us a 30-60 day guarantee that states that if for any reason we are not satisified with the level of service, we may cancel the contract at any time without penalty of any kind?

Please feel free to contact me off list at jeff@club977.com with your price quotes. We can sign an NDA if need be to get your pricing.

Thanks,
Jeff Bachmeier

Hi,

Huge project you got going here. I've actually never dealt with gbps lines. I'm sure my DC (The Planet and the Verio) can offer them, but I don't feel confortable provideing them, wouldn't want to sell something I don't have specific knowledge with. However, good luck, if you need dedicated servers, let me know. We do top of line servers like Dual Xeon, and low end like P3.

Thanks,

Mark

I am not aware of anyone who offers high ammounts of bandwidth, so I can't help you there, however I wish you luck, if there is anything I can ever do post here and will respond if I can :).

Why not stay with your current host: http://www.techxpress.net/ ?. Dont they offer what you require?

Thanks

Jeff I recommend you locate a number of data centres in your state/area and search up on the providers at webhostingtalk.com. Contact those most suitable for your project. You can find a list at the following link (http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showpost.php?p=3500074&postcount=153)

Like I said before, we have a couple of deals that are close to closing but I thought I'd try and post on here just to see.

Techxpress is just our website design company not our current bandwidth provider.

Well I don't think Revolutionary Host can offer anything that large. I'll check with my datacenter to see if I can't put some big mama servers in. Maybe then we could suit your needs. We currently only have one big mama server (a P4 2.8GHZ with 500GB HD's and 3TB BW on a 100MBs port).

SO will I be the first to reply?

To be completely honest. You won't find those type of providers here at FWS. Everyone houses (at best) leased servers at places like, as someone else mentioned, "The Planet, Verio, etc"

Personally, I do this for a living. I wouldn't discuss too much out here in the site as one of the most important parts about Network Security, is Confidentiality.

The very best that I can do, and have done in the past, at mininum is something to the effect of:

80 Amps of Power
100Mbps Constant
1Gbs Dual Ports
Ethernet Cross Connect
Cisco 6500's per your request
Utmost possibility of reducing single point of failure

We can supply the equipment and/or take your own, in a 45U Cabinet. Managed at about $30,000 per month.

Not sure if you need Management and/or that much. If bandwidth does not really meet your requirements, we have a second data center.

Both Data Centers that this is available in are not one of the regular "WebHosting" Data Centers, so google and the like will do no good. These are centers that are personally maintained by groups of professoinals. All of whom, you can meet in person.

If interested at all. Contact me, James Tylee, at 1-631-790-6280 to discuss arrangements. We are in New York and Connecticut.

I'm sure even some kids know their limits as to what they could offer and can't offer... plus it'd give them a really bad rep in fws... just my opinion

Sorry about that but it just stated that hosting provided by them on your site: http://img224.imageshack.us/my.php?image=ss6bl.gif

Ok I contacted our Iowa DC, and they could easily handle what you need. We still have tons of space and bandwidth left in there. So would you like for me to have our DC tech contact you on some details, answer you're questions and what not? Mind you it wouldn't be my company alone managing you're servers. It would be me on top, then the entire RTG Lynx Group, then the IOWA DC doing the background maintenence etc. Our DC was a former military DC, so it was built with communications and reliability in mind.

Some nice offers in here Jeff, just make sure you go with an experienced COMPANY not just one person, or a kiddie host. If you wanted my opinion of The Planet or Verio as potential companies for you to work with, I would definitely reccomend them. Just keep searching and getting quotes, never go with the cheapest though. Good luck with the project!

I agree with you Mark, and UNLESS the business has very STRONG BACKING, kiddie or OMO should not go for it.

Its a huge project and any screwups would mean losses and lawsuit. :p

Guys just so you know the 3 Gbps isn't based on transfer. We need to be able to sustain 3 Gbps anytime we want and go from there. Buy the pipe and then do what we want with it.

As a streaming media company, it's impossible to try and work deals on transfer. First off, the bill would change every month and secondly, you couldn't plan anything.

So this project may be way out of the scope we need on these forums. Thanks anyway. Feel free to contact me off list if you'd like to bid on this project.

My Albany NY center can push 5gbs per customer, we have one Television Channel there now.
