Last week a nearby city was celebrating an important person in its heritage. There were street markets, a rock concert and lots of fun stuff.
The main stage was in a large open park and it was in use all day. ther was a single guy walking around the park and in fornt of the stage with a big placard that read "STOP THE WAR ON POT" on one side and "POT: B.C's BIGGEST INDUSTRY" on the other with a drawing of a big plant. he was tackled by a police officer. What do you think of the whole situation?

The War against drugs will continue according to a Senate Ruling a few days ago. Overwhelmingly keeping the money sent to countries with problems.
I think tougher action should be taken. However the liberals here bitterly disagree. We should keep drugs ILLEGAL and keep the war. People disagree here harshly.
I am not ready for another argument because I don't feel really good.

I am not trying to start an debate, much less an argument. I am just wanting to get peoples reactions on this event.

I don't support full legalization, but I think certain steps need to be taken to improve how the drug war is fought. It's obvious things aren't working. Instead of throwing everyone in prision, other measures need to be considered and implimented. What those are, I don't know. With so many countries going towards at least partial legalization, soon the US may be fighting the drug war alone, and that only looks stupid. If things progress as they are, drug laws on at least "light" drugs may be repealed within the next decade or so.
And I don't think it was quite nessessary to takle a guy to the ground for simply supporting an idea. It wasn't even like he was out there smoking it...

I think the policeman should have beaten him to a wretched bloody and disfigured mess with his nightstick. :D

The whole incident is now "under investigation". the officer was removed from the guy, and reminded that the constitution was a pretty important law in canada. The protester got up and yelled ANOTHER VICTORY!!
i bet the cop was steaming. I can se him getting arrested if he was smoking it. I think they were hoping he was posessing some.

Wow... that's a little ridiculous. Isn't that like a first amendment thing?
[edit: oh right. haha. canada. watch me being all attentive and stuff.]
*sigh*
I think the drug war in the US is pretty damn ridiculous. Then again, I'm a bleeding-heart liberal whose current catchphrase is "victimless crimes." Drugs are bad for you. But why treat drug users as criminals instead of people with addictions who may need rehab treatment? ("Because drugs are illegal!" Mmm, circular arguments!")
The countries in Europe who have legalized marijuana or other drugs are working with this mindset. "Legalized" is not quite the right word -- they've stopped prosecution of people in possession of small amounts of drugs for personal use. Instead of arresting people who have stuff on them or in their homes, they take the drugs away and have the person come before a panel of people who decide whether or not the person needs rehab (there is a difference between use and abuse). At least, that's the way they're doing it in Portugal. If they've got a *lot* of stuff lying around the house, they'll probably still be arrested for trafficking.
I'm really not interested in like, seeing heroin legalized and sold at the corner store or anything. Far from it. I just think that the US is going about drug use the wrong way.

Are you from BC? You say nearby city so I think maybe you are from Washington state? or just somewhere else in the lower mainland? Just wondering.
Anyways, British Columbia is a much different place than anywhere else in North America when it comes to Marijuana. It is semi-legal here, where you will only get arrested if you have a million dollar grow op. It is legal for those with chronic pain to use, and we used to have a store where you could legally buy Marijuana seeds (Cannibis Cafe).
Vancouver was also awarded the #1 city in the world to live in recently.
So there.

This kind of crap makes me sick. If my dad can drink beer or any alcoholic beverage, and kill himself, why does my family that has LEGAL PERMISION to use marijuana for medical conditions (in canada) still have to get pot off of the street? GERRR.
My aunt is dying of cancer and uses pot to counteract the illness she gets from taking the drugs. She could end up dead on the street simply because she has not legal means of getting her medicine. If I was in canada I would be getting it for her but im not and I fear for her all the time. She is allowed to grow it but only 3 plants at a time, and thats just not enough.
It is good to hear that a lot of people around the world are recognizing that Marijauna is not Crack Cocaine and that it doesnt kill people. The facts are in people, Pot is not a gateway drug, only 1 % of users go on to harder drugs. It does not induce psycosis, unless the person has already been suffering and then it intesifies it.

Yea, i am in BC. i dont know if the place was actually a city or not, but it has at least 7000-10000 residents. In vancouver, there are so many grow ops only the big ones get noticed, and busted. out here where i am there are many small one that are found because either a. it is outdoors or b. it is in a suspicious looking greenhouse in the middle of nowhere. At the moment there are majore tests going on with medicinal marijuana, hopefully the outcome will be favourable.
