does their AUP prevent you from becoming a host? :D

I never seen anything in regard to being a host. I know there are host that use them. I intented on getting a dedicated server with them to host on.
Anyone else know? I guess I will have to ask them on their chat.

i was just wondering because 175 GB/mo. transfer at $99 a month is enticing, isn't it ;)

Last time I checked, they've upgraded it to 200GB of bandwidth a month with 256mb of ram on each server. I can be mistaken since I don't know use. But I know a few companies that have dedicated RaQ4is from Rackshack and provide hosting.

it's still 175 GB, and they only have 17 servers left on this plan

make that 15.

You can use a rackshack server for a hosting company.
vwww.net hosts with them and there are others.
One thing to be aware of though is there isn't always someone at the server location. They told me someone was there between 9:00 and 19:00 central (I am not quit sure it was 19:00 but something like that.) If there is a problem with your server outside of those hours, they will send someone out to fix it. I think tech support is available 24/7.
The server I manage crashed three times last week. (out of memory/out of disk space in OS partician due to poor cobalt configuration design) It took 2 to 3 hour for them to restart it two of the times. It took over 15 hours the other time.
(the crashes all happened around the time of cron daily, about 4:30 pacific.)
There is just one site on the server so it wasn't a major catastrophy to have it down so long, but I sure wouldn't want that down time if I was hosting 100 sites. I think system crashes are fairly rare though. Our server ran for three+ months without a problem.
Other than that, I am very satisfied with them.
You won't find a better deal with that configuration and bandwidth.

if you need extra space, can you buy it from them? i may have missed it in the sales faq. all i saw was that you can ask for internet protocol addresses, that's it.

I think that all of their servers are raq4i with the same configuration. The only upgrade that I have seen is memory (to 512).

Biscotto's comments are very accurate. Depending on what time of the day your server goes down, it could be back up an hour later or the next day.
Regarding the disk space, all of the Raq4i's come with 20 GB. You can't upgrade the disk space.
Regarding their support... their's always someone there to talk to... the IRC chat is great!
I've heard a lot of people complaining about not getting quality support and I see it happening in the IRC chat. But it doesn't make sense to me... if your server is down, you don't go and "chat" about it. You send in a trouble ticket and make a phone call if necessary. Phone support is 24/7.
Just my opinion of course. :)

i think i would rather go with interserver or burstNET

Neither interserver.net or burst.net offer Raq servers... I don't see how you can compare?
And I knew the owner of interserver.net from back when we used to chat on AOL. (long time ago) I really doubt that they have their own NOC, so are they reselling their dedicated servers?

seems so:

as for the dedicated server, I'm just a newbie so I'd rather go with a server with a lot of space. maybe I'm wrong. you can count on seeing me more often at WHT (i'm still using my old username, needcgispace)

Why such a big difference? Yours came up as 6 ms, and from yahoo it's 261 ms, lol.
Anyway, Interserver is on dedicated servers at VDI and reselling or colocating servers at VDI as well. The pictures that Interserver has of "their" NOC are actually pictures taken from vdi.net.
