View Full Version : Need quotes for a certain dedicated server

Hello all. I don't necessarily need something immediately, but this could change if my current server doesn't come back up very soon with the help of my current host.
I need a server with specs around something like below:
at least Intel P4 2.8Ghz or AMD 3000
2 GB RAM
40GB HD
Linux (OS doesn't really matter)
some sort of control panel
fully managed (well, I guess depending on your definition of managed)
100Mbps port
at least 1200GB bandwidth
some backup space would be nice but not required
My site is a popular downloads mirror site for some popular projects, including the UBCD, UBCD4Win, AutoPatcher, etc. There's lots of traffic with lots of concurrent connections and with some files being 100-200MB in size. I have a very nice script that I use to manage everything which also really helps keep the general server load down to around average or so, but the bandwidth usage is always great.
I'm just looking for some quotes for hosts/people who can help me, preferrably with a monthly price at $200 or under. I would also like to be able to chat/talk with people when I need to and always have some active monitoring so that if it does go down, it can be rebooted/fixed to come back up ASAP. My uptime for this month was perfect until I exceeded my 1TB bandwidth limit too quickly and the server (or NIC) shutdown completely. I don't want that to happen again. Please let me know what you can do. Thanks. :)

Just an update on his behalf, he needs 2GB of RAM, so adjust offers accordingly.

LittlBUGer, how "managed" do you need :) I can do a
- P4 3GHz / 2GB RAM / 80GB HD / CentOS / DirectAdmin / 5 mbps line (95% billing) at $220/month.
- free 40GB backup to our backup server as well.
The server is basic managed only, not fully managed. You are still the person to be in charge of server management, but our techs will help if needed. We do not charge if the issue can be resolved within 30 minutes
Let me know if you are interested

@inceptiongs
I sent you a PM, thanks. :)
@gate2vn
Those are great specs but I'm not sure if 5Mbps will be enough, plus the fact it's not as managed as I would like (I'm assuming) and the initial cost is a bit too high, especially if you upped the port and management. I'm sorry, but thanks for the offer.
@ALL
Anything else? :)

FYI: the server is connected to 100mbps switch port, not 5mbps port :) the line 5mbps (burstable to 100mbps) can bring you ~1600GB transfer.
anyway, good luck with your research :)

I'm sorry, I understand that, but I've already been offered a nearly identical offer except with a 10Mbps line and fully managed for slightly less price. Thanks though as I do appreciate it and know you are a respectable company. :)

This customer requires an absolute mininum of 1500gb per month, with low overage fees.
He averages 53gb per day, it ABSOLUTELY MUST be a private, single use, dedicated server.
Someone just offered him 900gb and I'm sure they are not even aware of the requirements.

You are not aware of his requirements yet. Offering anything below 1500 is a no go at all. The bandwidth you are offering will last only 1/2 a month.
On a fair note: Any host intending to offer him a package, please make an offer for AT LEAST 1500gb of bandwidth and also quote overtage. Its an ebay site in the making.
And kiddy hosts please stay away, you dont know what you are getting yourself into. It would be very unfair for the client if you are not adequately prepared for this. Its for your own good.

Randy I have an amazing offer for you. I must PM it as other webhosts will bombard me for it. I had a full -out argument with my ISP Carrier over he DDoS Issue that I'm having and found a provider that is offering me 10mbps UMETERED uplinks (If I move ALL of my servers to them) for an UNBELIEVABLE price. .. I also get lock and key to my boxes 24/7 with Security Issuance at the Data Center.
I also argued that they locked us out of your IP and holding it hostage for a $100 payment. They're losing a lot of servers now. You actually helped expose a weakness for our provider.

Mate, it would be a waste of a dedi if you were to put a 40GB HD and use it with 2GB Ram,
That's why I can give you a "Semi-Dedicated".
Your cut will be 40GB space/400GB bandwidth/unlimited features except (100 mysql databases and 150mb quota for mysql) $60USD/mo
The main server's specs will be:
Dual Xeon 2.8 GHz
800 MHz FSB with HyperThreading
2048 MB Dual Channel DDR400 ECC RAM
2x300 GB SATA Hard Drives with 16 MB Cache.
Or you could just buy a VPS which I don't offer at the moment.

Just for the sake of discussion, his site will crash your server in less than a week. He needs nothing less than a dedicated.

Do you mean he has found a host?
Yes he stayed with the Chargertek group. We always allow people to leave, without burning bridges, but then, we always make good. Customers make the world go 'round.

Yes, hottweelz is right. Thank you everyone for your time and your quotes, but I decided I'm staying with my current host after they gave me an offer I couldn't refuse. Plus the fact that they've been great and know my needs. It's the best all around. Thanks again. :)
