Okay, there are already 16 Christmas threads, but this one is different - you can stop pretending Christmas is about family and friends and just focus on the good stuff, the loot. So, what did you get for Christmas?
So far I've only had one of my several Christmases, and most notably I got a blacklight, something I've wanted for a long time. Now all I need is a disco ball and it's rave time.

Daniel

Hardly.

I walked 5 minutes to the park, looked over the fence, I see freaking pot holes in the ice, full of ice chips, snow, garbage, and I'm like: screw that.

I got:
an awesome down sleeping bag (mummy style) good to -12
2 pairs of new gloves
LED headlamp
a bunch of socks
Metric ----ton of chocolate
Clothing

And a bunch of my friends pitched in money for me to get a cell phone. Apparently they're tired of me being hard to get ahold of. (that's how I like it)

I too am probably forgetting something. I'll look at my haul tomorrow and take inventory.

Oh yeah, the phone has a camera so I'll probably be able to take some dirty pictures. :P

Daniel

Metric ----ton of chocolate eh? You too? ;)

Yeah I do, but I have my doubts that we'll ever see -12 again. it's 8 above and raining where I am, and that's completely ----ed. The snowpack is unstable everywhere, and I've got all this new equipment sitting in my basement staring at me.

So far this is all I've got to show for the season.

http://img341.imageshack.us/img341/8881/imgp28659zo.jpg

And as far as chocolates go, I reall like those ones you have to smack on the ground before you can eat them... the raspberry flavoured especially.

That picture has more snow in it than I've seen since last Christmas thru now. I've got an awesome thermal sleeping bag myself, perfect for winter camping, which I do from time to time. But I know what you mean...it would be WAY too hot sleeping in that thing right now. It might have dropped under 0 early this morning, but even that didn't last long.

Daniel
December 28th, 2005, 19:34
It's like 3 below right now, tomorrow it's going to be +1. At this rate, I'm never going to be able to play hockey outdoors this break. :(

We did get a ton of snow about 2 weeks ago. http://www.fr0mage.com/snowday/

Hey, at least you Canadian's have ice rinks period! Here in the the boring state of Kansas, my home town shut down the one ice rink I loved for the last 6 years or so. It doesn't get cold enough for the ponds to freeze up more than once, twice if we are lucky, each year.

Anyway, my loot:
-Couple shirts, hoodies, whatever
-Cologne
-Call of Duty 2
-Money
-Alarm Clock
-Heated Blanket (i love this)
-Leather jacket
-New wallet and Dilbert calender from girlfriend

Not the best bring-in from years past, but it wasn't bad either.

Well, I can always go down the street and select 1 of 3 indoor arenas and play there. But it's not the same...

Btw, the Pitsburgh Penguins might move to Kansas City. :biggrin2:

Rent a rink at any arena, get some friends and some sticks and a puck and play hockey.

Just bought Command and Conquer: Generals and Generals: Zero Hour with the remaining money on my Best Buy gift card. Doesn't run amazingly well on my computer, but it's definitely better than I expected it to be.

Bruce
December 30th, 2005, 11:07
Yeah, you can't really go wrong with any C&C game. I actually preferred Act of War to Generals though...

I'm still waiting for February when EA releases The C&C First Decade set. The original C&C has always been my favorite, but I don't feel like setting up a 95 box just to play it. Being able to play it on XP will be sweet.

Yeah, that's the way to go. The more friends you can get out there, the less it's going to cost you, and it's better hockey. My friends and I try to do that at least once a year. But I live a one minute walk away from a huge pond that they put nets up on every winter, so I do that a lot more. I think it's cold enough to play on today, so that's my plan for today :p

I would have went today, but my new computer just came in so I had to break it in.

Bruce, you can run Red Alert and C&C on XP using compatibility mode, just no multiplayer. :( I'm waiting for First Decade aswell, I heard multiplayer will work in XP even for the old games. Awesome.

Man, it was awesome. It was cold enough today to play, so me and some friends hit up the pond. My skates were broken in within 10 minutes, and then they no longer hurt my feet. It's like I've owned them for ten years. It was absolutely ----ing pristine.

Now if only I had skills.

Daniel
December 31st, 2005, 01:43
So far this year I've hit the rink only once, and there was no one there.

I atleast have a big shot, too bad it's kinda useless when there's no goalie.

Gayowulf
December 31st, 2005, 01:47
I don't have any good skating stories to relate. I have my trusty old CCM tacks from Canuck Wheel. Which is probably why i don't much like skating. They're like a couple of rusty leg-hold traps frozen to my feet.

But in other news I get paid to watch a lot of the Junior International hockey championships. WIth VIP seating.

I watched Sweden and Latvia play today, and Latvia got worked over 10-2, but i think it was one of the best hockey games I've seen in my life. I was cheering for Latvia, and then almost bought a Sweden Jersey.

and I dislike the Russians. Their behaviour off the ice has been really bad.

How the hell did you land that job? And why wasn't I invited?

Gayowulf
December 31st, 2005, 03:37
I've worked at one of the venues for awhile, and they made me the bartender in the VIP lounge, and in charge of liquor service for all the private suites. THere are a bunch of big screens in the lounge.

During the game when the lounge is empty I go BS with the people in the suites and make sure everything is to their satisfaction (and watch the game) and then during the intermission I help all the important people and strange foreigners get drunk.

I would have invited you Blank, but I tell ya, there's no way to sneak in guests.

I've had mixed luck getting them to run properly on XP. Sometimes it will run fine for a while and then freeze, and sometimes it just won't run at all.

But yes, working multiplayer is the big thing.
