Hey can you all give me some tips/advice/suggestions on what's needed to start a free webhosting site? I need to know what I will need in regards to legal matters mainly and anything else I would need. It will be a small site and if it goes well, I will expand. Thanks for any info given.

Money. And Time. As for legal matters, consult your lawyer.

As for legal matters, consult your lawyer. lol!

Just get a reseller. You need the money for a reseller, and a lot of time to become a reseller. You need to have time to provide your customers with.

When I say legal matters, I meant as far as writing a TOS/AUP. You mean I need to have a lawyer to get that?

You need staff and money, time isn't important if you have staff to help you out. And money brings staff, so basically what you need here is money and lots of it.
And for lega matters you need money to give to a laywer to write you a TOS or just rip it off someone else or write one yourself.

I suggest finding a really good web designer, a client doesnt only look at what you offer, a nice neat site will attract more than a choppy messy one.

www.hostlegal.com has an AUP/TOS you can buy pretty cheap.

Get a Reseller, and a good one. Your clients, although they would get their hosting for free, will be very picky on speed, uptime etc.
As said before, get a design. I suggest checking out http://www.kooshindesigns.com for that.
You will need something that you can make money out of. So, get ads on your clients sites that will generate a revenue to help pay for the reseller.

Regarding a TOS, if you want I can write you one fairly cheap, or go to where utcrazy said.

Also, don't forget the domain. ;)

Best of luck

My advice is to get a VPS, install all those mod_layout, zpanel/xpanel/cpanel stuff and allow automatic signup. I really have nothing agaist Chinese, but 50% of them are illegal :S So either you must ban the zone, or manual signup...

Advertising isnt needed that much, just post ONE thread at FWS and also apply at clickherefree.com and other directories. I got 250 signups in one day.

About the TOS: Its very easy to write one, if you want one, feel free to PM me, and I will give you mines ;)

Yeah, for the legal stuff, be sure to include the following if you are a sole propreiter:

If [company name] is sued on behalf of your actions, you agree to reimburse [company name] in full.

Because, if you are not an LLC, you must accept liability for your clients actions.

Thanks for all the advice. I may start one. Haven't decided yet.
