Hi, I want to burn a dvd, but my dvd player doesn't support avi so I have to convert it to mpeg or vob or something like that. I have tried some free programs but the speed is slow (5-7 hours per movie). I also found some programs that are said to be faster.. but the trial version coverts only few mins of the movie. And I'm not going to pay. Ideas? And btw, I'm using Nero 6 (express one).. and got another question too- how can i make them to show on dvd? I've came across a couple of guides for this..but in order to follow them i'd have to download many many programs and be almost an expert in this :eek2:

If your not going to pay then have a great time waiting 7 hours. Dont forget we are talking about 1GB of avi so it can take time.

What you could do is download a program like Alcohol 120%, which creates a fake drive. Throught the program you can mount your avi file onto the fake drive and then watch it through your media player.

just do it this way with AVI files and such:
1. DOwnload a program like WinAVI - it converts AVI files to DVD (.VOB)
2. Once installed, just open up the program, select the file you want to convert and bam its converted.
3. THen use Nero's DVD Image burn program to burn the .VOB's on the dvd.

OR
If you have bought Nero 7 you can just use NeroVision to do it all.. very good program to buy!

And I'm not going to pay. Ideas?Unless you buy good software, you probably won't find a free solution that fits your requirements. :)

Hey,
I havent burned many DVD's yet, but from my little experience
I would recommend going with DIKO which has a free version

I have tried both DIKO and NeroVision
out of the two DIKO got beter quality than Nero and it allows many more options/settings, with Diko you can fit up to 10 hours of video onto DVD (however quality would be low) however you can fit around 2 and a 1/2 hours on there with quality being great. But Like Nerovision Diko takes awhile to convert from .avi to dvd format, however i find it is a bit faster ;)

also Nerovision can have subs, however they may not appear correctly..
and Diko can have subs also but appears correctly

hope it helps again I havent done many dvd's so im by far not an expert on this subject

You can search for a freeware avi--> VOB converter. The reason it's too slow is because your computer specs, not from the program itself. After this, you can load the vobs through nero.

As stated before, Nero 7 will do this automatically for you.
