I cannot get audio CD's to play on my computer! It doesn't come up with any errors, it just plays... but with no sound, its like i'm listening to music with my speakers off :( All other sounds work, except CD Audio. I have an old Sound Blaster 16 card but I remember having the same card in my old 486 and CD Audio worked.
I have fiddled 'round with most of the settings in the Control Panel and the CD volume is on, and I just wanna get the god damn thing to work!
Any ideas?

Just an idea: do you have a lead from your soundcard to your cd drive? I think this is needed.

Hmmmm... I donno, but I think it should work if they are not connected directly... shouldn't it.

Ah, f%^*... I think your right, I just plugged some headphones into the jack in the cd-rom and it works. But... for that to work, it has to be already connected to the sound card, right?... soo, maybe the CD-rom has to be connected to the jack in the back of the computer internally or something... i have no clue and headphones are sh!t. The only good thing is that I can listen to other stuff like mp3s while i'm listening to the cd audio.... but I dont have a dual output soundcard, so that means the cd audio must be working without the soundcard, is that possible??
Ok, ive confused myself completely!!!

Wait, that is possible isn't it... well how do I conect the CD-rom to the soundcard?

Basically you have to get an audio cable from somewhere and attach one end where it says audio on your cd rom drive and the other end in the right position in the sound card.

If you don't care about / don't have a warranty....
Open up your pc, if you see a loose wire coming from your cd drive, plug it into your soundcard. If not, take the computer to a repair shop.

Yeah, I could have sworn my it was working before... although my computer has been opened a few times before to install a zip drive and to fix a COM port. Must've been knocked loose.

hehe, well I got a 2GB harddrive (sad, i know) and no stereo in the room. So I'm just unplugging the speakers from the back of the computer and plugging it into the CD-ROM when I want to listen to music :p
