View Full Version : using uk2.net as a registrar for a worldzoneprone hosted site

For obvious reasons (if you read the paid hosting forum) I am moving my site from uk2.net. As long as they complete their server move soon, I'll move my site to worldzonepro.

wzp does not offer domain registry services, you need a separate registrar and to point the domain at the wzp name servers.

Now, given that I have a year to run of the uk2.net domain registration deal and that to move early, I must pay their termination fee, it makes financial sense to leave the domain registration with them but to update the DNS record to point to the wzp name servers.

My question is: is this sensible and safe? My understanding is that the DNS record is held with the CORE database and that, as long as uk2.net updates the record correctly, the reliability of the name will not depend on any system run by uk2.net.

Is this so? Does anyone have experience of domain registration with uk2 but hosting elsewhere?

Do you have access to your domain's DNS ? (most likely not)

Can you change the nameservers associated with your domain?

The uk2.net site says that you can keep the domain registration with them and elect to point the domain at another host's name servers.

Then it won't matter (as long as you submit it properly).

Except UK2 charge £18 for changing the name servers for your domain.

If the name was registered in the past 2 months youcan go to Joker.com and get the password sent to you so you can change it yourself.
Prior to 2 months ago only the admin contact, not the owner, could make these changes and UK2 were the admincontact for all their domains.
