I have a netfirms account, and I wanted to know if the ikonboard is supported there. I don't intend to use it that much, I just want to setup an ikonboard for practice so that when my new web site opens @ http://www.clangrounds.com I can have the option of using it. Also, what will the absolute value paths be for netfirm accounts?

get the ikonboard latest beta , it has an installer , you don't need to mess about with paths , they are automically done

I have just wasted my time trying to put a YaBB on Netfirms.

It lasted about a day and then they suspended the account without explanation; and yes it was a perfectly legitimate legal bulletin board for a perfectly legitimate legal users' community.

On looking at the reviews for Netfirms it seems that many people have tried to install all kinds of BB on Netfirms and have been suspended. It appears that they unofficially do not allow bulletin boards. I say unofficially because it says nothing specific about bulletin boards anywhere on their site.

I've tried sending it through with the default settings, but it still is wrong. I have everything right except the path to the image files.

The way that netfirms is setup is that you have a cgi-bin & www folders. The board goes into the cgi-bin of course, but the instructions say they want the images in the www folder.

This is wrong - /home/d01/sec/s14/a0005bb4/cgi-bin/ikonboard/

That is the default path for the images, but I have my image folder named images instead of ikonboard.

So I've tried - /home/d01/sec/s14/a0005bb4/images
-/home/d01/sec/s14/a0005bb4/www/images

A netfirms guru should be able to answer this question hopefully. :D

I you check the properties of the file your trying to find using your FTP client, it will give you the location of the file. This will be the full server side path to the file.

I got it to work, but I just realized that it's not the latest beta. So I'm going to take it down as soon as I read up on beta 3. :D

I just uploaded the latest ikonboard...so far it looks sweet. If the ikonboard team keeps this up, they'll put the pay for boards out of business...that is unless they decide to start charging themselves... :-0

Naah, the guy that writes ikonboard said it will always remain free no matter what, they got a sponsor for their site now so that should be helping with that....

as long as they dont pull the same crap as prohosting *we will never ever put ads on your pages, we are supported by paying customers* well we know how much we can trust you...

It's a little off topic, but Free Prohosting never actually said that. They never made any promises, they always just said that for now they didn't have any ads because they thought the support of people becoming paying customers would be enough. Crosswinds, on the other hand, was stupid enough to make absolute promises of never having any ads, in large print on their main page, and simply crossed that out when they decided they couldn't do that anymore after all.

Anyhow, I doubt Ikonboard will start charging... though I think OpenBB will be better anyway.
