i d/led this "program" to make a rediretion service. I don't know how or where to install it. Look at the readme:

Redirect it is rather easy to install. The only configuration variables
that need to be changed are in the variables.pl file. They all have comments
above the variable itself explaining it purpose. You should edit those variables
now.

INSTALL

1. Check your path to perl5, if it is something different from #!/usr/bin/perl
you will need to change it on all .cgi files. If you are unsure of the path to perl
on your server, ask your host, or look at another perl script currently running on your
server. The path to perl is always the first line of the file.

2. Upload all files to your cgi-bin in ASCII mode. This is very important, as cgi files
will not work if uploaded in binary.

3. Chmod all .cgi files to 755 to make them excutable.

4. Make sure the data directory you configured in variables.pl is writable by the cgi. On
most servers this means chmoding the directory to 777, while 755 works on others.

5. From your browser, type in the url of where the aadmin.cgi file was just installed
i.e. http://www.domain.com/cgi-bin/admin.cgi
You will be prompted to set a admin password.

6. Now you must make sure your server is set up to have the users forwarded to their
longer, less cool urls.
For subdomain set up: http://solutionscripts.com/man/redirect/subdomain.shtml
For folder base redirection use:
http://solutionscripts.com/man/redirect/folder.shtml

7. Once your admin password is set, you are ready to start giving away the new urls.
To allow people to sign up, send them to new.cgi
To allow people to edit their information, point them to edit.cgi
Admin.cgi will tell you the number of current accounts you have and let you
view and delete accounts.

If you are having problems running or installing Redirect It, check out

i was wondering if someone colud help me? I need to know a good (free, no ad if possible) service i can install it on, and how to install it.

Would F2S work? Do i need to connect using FTP? If so, how?

Thanks in advance!

If you want subdomain redirection, you need a host with wildcards enabled. But I guess folder redirection would work on F2S.

and that of course means you need a pay host. no free host is going to allow wildcards.

you'll need wildcards enabled so you can have subdomain redirection, dum dum ;)

well i've never done this before. I was thinking of setting up 4 or 5 domains on MyDomain then setting up path fowarding. When someone signed up on the f2s, it would make a subdomain under my f2s acct.
eg: wassup.my.f2s.com ---> wassup.somedomain.com
so i would foward

is there anyway to do that (free)? or do i have to use folder fowarding?

well...i would be happy if i could do it on a free webspace server (and mydomain)

ps--i have 69 posts

you need to have your own IP and wildcards enabled. a good test for this is to see if *.yourdomain.com works as well as asdfjasdfas.yourdomain.com. f2s does not give out IPs, so you're outta luck.

does ne1 or newhere give out ips for free?

you REALLY must be joking. the answer definitely is no. some pay hosts don't even give dedicated IP addresses in their packages.

i got billed...but i accidentally deleted them. the guy said they would be deleted within 5days if i didnt pay, but its been longer and there not dead. I don't know--if they get deleted, than owell. but i dont care--there still there now

wow, you sound highly interested in maintaining a reputable and long-standing redirection service.

well, you could always co-brand with wzr.net [been toying with that idea for a while], but that would lack any administrative control on your end, other than looking through previously registered domains and pointing out to me any illegal ones... plus there's the "i didn't pay and don't know how long they'll last" thing...

we could try co-brading. I'll be like a "Beta Tester" for co-branding with your site. Want to try?

alright, beta testing is cool enough, nothing major or permanent... email me at keith@wzr.net.
