No, it was out for about 10 minutes - but all sites can do that for backups or whatever. Just bad timing. If your backing up MySQL you don't want any more posts during it. I was accessing when it happened but it's not sever or major just mormal.

All servers go down once in a while. Live with it.

Have to or how do you protect them (upgrading OS/Web Server & associated software), it's just the nature of the beast.

Ya but i dont think fws is on a beast server , but i could be wrong as i dunno the hardware configuration of server at which fws is hosted, i am guessing probably a p4 machine with alteast 512 maybe 1 gb ram . But i think peo can tell why fws keeps going down now a days a lot and what is the hardware configuration.

I recon it would have to be with the traffic through the boards.

But taking it down for security updates, etc. is normal and posting on this board wouldn't really make a effect As how many out of the total members would see it - and a mailing list would get silly.

It was only down for 5-10 minutes (reboot time that's not bad at all) today.

Hmm its not about today i think yesterday also or few days back i got sql errors , so dunno maybe some problem with server arose. But yaa mailing list would kill the beast instantly , i mean what sort of beast likes to email :biggrin2:

We've been having past issues with kernel panics under Debian linux. A kernel upgrade seems to have taken care of that, but we're now experiencing a new issue. Using newer hardware under Linux/BSD with a heavy load is causing some issues with the (fairly) new server. They aren't constant issues, but they are frequent enough that I'm re-evaluating our options.

We do monitor the site both locally and remotely for issues, and we take care of them as soon as we can. We rebooted the server again tonight so there was a brief moment of downtime.
