The entire "copyright protection" crap built in is keeping me away from anything "XP" (well, that and the high system requirements ;) )

Are there any drivers available with XP? Do your programs run well? Any proplems? I can see installing it and having a program/driver nightmare...

I payed for the Beta program, and last week my credit card was charged, and I haven't seen the CD of RC1 yet - then again, I paid for it before I moved - so it had to go through the mail forwarding system....

I'm not really bothered by the whole XP verification system... I plan on upgrading my computer before I upgrade to XP (if I do)... So I really don't have to worry about having to call them up afterwards -- plus you get a 30 grace period before you need to validate your system...

WorldWarGeneral

Well, I suppose the validation thing isn't that big a deal, I'm sure the hackers of the world are already hard at work developing and releasing ways around it. It's just the idea that it's necessary at all...

niv

it is, but count on it to slow down your machine.

Recommened Requirements for XP is something like:
600MHz Processor
128-256megs of RAM.

Count on this OS to make your system feel like the old days.

Win XP RC2 doesn't run too bad on my machine. It seems to be running pretty smoothly.

I don't need the OS to do that. My system is like the old days without it. I guess that what you get for having a 475mhz system with 120mb ram.

Run something processor intensive and see the difference.

running this OS on my old 450 Mhz (512 MB RAM) machine test box will make it run like a 16 Mhz NEC 80286SX running turbo.exe on slow mode. ;)

Spacedude: That's preliminary requirements.

The recommended requirements are much higher...

Have you tried installing Windows 2000 on a Pentium 200 MHz? (it's minimum requirement)

Bruce

Anything will boot up faster and run smoother than Win ME. That was the OS that was built on Neanderthal technology...

I tried it... And I didn't know how to make LILO boot into Windows, so I trashed all my partitions and reformatted everything.

In the process, I also lost many of the webpages I made but never uploaded =(

meow
August 3rd, 2001, 13:39
I don't even know what LILO is. I'll play it safe though. I'll install LINUX on this machine when I've got my new one and moved everything there. :)

Coolin
August 3rd, 2001, 13:41
LILO is Linux's boot manager... It's supposed to be able to boot any OS if you know how...

But I don't :(
