How often do you get a host asking for hosting?
:nervous:
10GB Space
50GB Bandwidth
Shell, to be used for wget
I would like some different locations from my servers.
No - Savvis
No - Equinix VA
Will be used for backup zips and other zips which need to be in a secure environment.
Any control panel is ok.
Budget? No limits, cheaper the better - is not mission critical, but I would like reliability.

Okay what are you talking about a1whs.com; because I am completely lost. From reading his original post...it seems that he is asking for some hosting.
Am I missing something HUGE here?
A1Owner
January 25th, 2006, 17:07
Ok is everyone blind and cannot understand english ? Read his post again and replace "HOST" with "CUSTOMER" cause that is the only mistake he made. And its a question not a request. Please read properly , maybe james should pitch in and explain :)

If you have something, offer it.
Considering a few of the pm offers so far.

I'm too tired to figure out if you want hosting or not, I'll try to answer 'both' of your questions (assuming I know what they both are).
peter@real-hosts, I like your price - how long have you been trading?
November 2002. Based in UK, running 5 servers, 2 as backups. Soon plan to offer dedicated servers and colocation in our own rack space...
How often do you get a host asking for hosting?
All the time, though I usually don't consider most of them as 'hosts', but 'resellers'.
Haven't dealt with many wanting space specific for backup usage, though have experience of backing up remotely (around 100GB nightly over rsync, 1-2GB actually transferred.)

Can I have test ping and file for the London server? It's my location. Also further details on your network and server specs would help. How much for 20GB and 100GB?
This post might mean different to different people. I like dubious topics.
I am actually considering. Use is for 3rd location backup for ultimately important files.
Thank you.

James,
Ping: 84.234.17.38
Download Test: http://www.real-hosts.co.uk/cds3.zip (only 15MB, can provide a larger file on request)
Currently network is provided by Netrino, we colocate a server with them.
Connectivity is provided by:
Level(3), RapidSwitch, Euroconnex, Xchangepoint Europe and Caladan Communications.
We have plans in the next 2 months to move to our own rack, and have quotes for 1Gbit connections from some tier 1's, though this isn't confirmed yet...
As for server specs:
3GHz CPU, 1 GB Ram. Currently running DirectAdmin on CentOS.
Everything is rsyned to our backup servers nightly.

And still they keep comming - yep had a few requests like that.
Usually as you say as a secondary location (rather than pay for a second location for a backup - like a disk).
No harm in it if it's serious and they will pay the going rate.

What an interesting and confusing thread.
20GB Disk / 80GB bandwidth would be roughly the same.
Most of our fees come from disk space, we have tonnes of bandwidth...
It might be cheaper to host on our US servers, which actually get backed up to a UK server every night anyway.
20GB / 80GB on US server:
$9.99 | £5.60 /month
20GB / 80GB on UK server:
$14.25 | £7.99 /month

Yes.
We rsync almost the full hard drives to our UK backup servers every night. Once an initial backup is complete, the next night takes less than 15mins.
