does anyone have the 6mbit DSL from SBC? is that guaranteed 6mbit or burstable to that? I think $60 for that is a good deal since I download alot..

Wow. I'd go for that in a heartbeat. If it was offered in my area. And my landlord let me install that.

Rogers cable, it's 6meg/864. I get right at 6meg so it's excellent. It's the fastest residential in my area, so it's the best I can get basically. It's $45.00 but I bundle with digital cable, so it's a bit cheaper.

Just as a little side note: Has anyone seen the new Bell commercial? "five times faster than rogers" Technically, they are, but that's the Bell 5meg line (their largest) VS. the Rogers Ultra Lite (their lowest) Now, that's marketing at it's best. :) Rogers 6meg is faster obviously.

UK broadband will not get much faster as everything is based around the very old copper wiring system. We need to get some new fibre optic cables installed.

Funny thing is, the Koreans actually consume all of it merely by playing StarCraft.

I think Adelphia offers 6mbit for $60 here... plus like another $15-20 since I don't have Cable TV.

That's why I stick with DSL.

I pay $21 a month for dial-up from my ISP. What do you think of that?
Reasonable?
Too high?
Whoa...you're still on dial-up!?? (answer=yes)

I think it's a bit high for dial up. Just my two cents.

Whoa...you're still on dial-up!?? (answer=yes)Well, considering you (well maybe not you, personally) can get DSL for $15, yes $21 is too high for dial-up.

$10 is the absolute max you should pay for dialup really.

Bruce
February 6th, 2006, 17:26
And it hasn't gone down it price at all?

I know back in 2001 my DSL was $50 for 768k, and now it's only $30 for 3mbit. So it's gone down $20 and the speed has quadrupled.

You may want to look into a cheaper alternative if they won't cut you a better deal. But geez, 10 years, now that's some loyalty.

And it hasn't gone down it price at all?

Actually, at one point they were charging me more, something like $28 and then I saw the offer of $21 for new accounts and I said to their "Chat help:"

How come I'm not getting $21

The answer was the # of mailboxes in the plan & I only use 2 anyway so ---

Maybe I should check to see if there is a current offer that I am not getting --- I do get 10 MB of space for a site -- it was my first one & it still ranks higher than my owned domain for some reason...

Yup, February 1996 -- I attended an "Internet Information" show at the Jacob Javitz Center in NYC -- back in those days they were just trying to get people on the Internet.
I signed up with a company called Pipeline --> was taken over by Mindspring --> taken over by Earthlink --> but I always kept the address rhianna@pipeline

I always loved being rhianna@pipeline & still do :classic2: & that's why I still stay there

I have been with them for 10 years

Thanks for the advice, this is what they charge for dial-up:

$21.95/mo.

They are making an introductory deal with people:
$9.95/mo for 6 months
Offer good for a limited time to new subscribers only and not good with any other offer. First 6 months of service are billed at $9.95 per month. Standard monthly access fee applies thereafter. Service not available in all areas. Access fees, taxes, and other fees and restrictions may apply.

You can read this:
http://www.earthlink.net/dialup/#legal

I'm not getting any special deals for my 10 year loyalty :cry2:

hum, that "free security" thing is what is driving your price high
at my job we sell 2 packages, one for 6$ one for 10$
so you'r actually paying 1/2 price for the internet, 1/2 price for the security

so if you'r not even using that security:
1) call and ask for lower price
2) change isp, you'll find a bunch for about 10$ per month
