View Full Version : Selecting a domain registrar. . .

I read posts where people recommended various registrars here like gkg.net, powerpipe.com, godaddy.com etc.

You can look at thier prices and features but in the end how do you decide which to use? Well of course one is word of mouth and the other is how they respond to you if you ask them some questions. Do they respond in a timely fashion and do they answer the questions correctly and in detail?

So to put that to the test I used the contact forms on both gkg.net and powerpipe.com yesterday 3pm EDT.

I got an autoreply from gkg.net saying they got the email and that was it. I still have not heard anything back from them.

I got a personal email from powerpipe.com today at 10AM EDT answering my question.

If I was to choose between these two at this point I would choose powerpipe. If I want to give gkg.net a full 24 hours then we'll see if they answer today or not.

Or I may just stick with www.npsis.com which costs a little more but where I usually get a personal reply within a couple hours.

Thanks all (in other postings)! Between this and other forums and checking out the web sites and emailing them Ive decided to go with GODADDY.COM!!!! :)

gkg.net has a more laborious transfer method where you have to fill out some form and fax it in and I couldnt figure out what Im supposed to put where so forget about that. powerpipe.com was good but they charged $15 for a transfer and even it maybe they give you an extra year or not which I couldnt figure out, I dont have the money now to pay for all those domains to transfer at that price!!!!

Yes dotster is also highly recommended, but they charge $15. All things being equal or just as good, why pay more when you dont have to?

godaddy.com has a very good interface, support area, they do transfers by email authentication and dont charge extra fees for the transfer! So its just $9 for the transfer and the domain!!! :) I will see how it goes.

quite off topic: what the heck is with the supergreg thing? Seen the site before (not yours) and was puzzled to say the least.

Eeehhhhhh....uuuhhhhhh.....

Did you guys look at my site?
I mean really look?!

A few links in and All will be explained.
Aside from my explanation there are links to other articles on other sites which go into more detail.

He used to be on the buddy lee web site, www.buddylee.com,
but they have discontinued that ad program and have begun anew as advertisers are wont to do. However, the original ad is available for viewing on my web site!!! :)

Have fun.

Anyway I find the whole thing quite funny and cool in a way. I like Super Greg. What can I say?! I like weird stuff. I like Mahir too!!! I parodied him on www.worldwidecat.com

Does anyone remember Mahir anyway?! :)

I looked at the site but admit I got sidetracked to the actual supergreg site. I'm uncertain if it is a joke or if it is a real site with some dweeb, etc., heh. Ahhh well, I got bigger problems to solve, but will check it out when I have more free time.
