New to forms and CGI

I've been using FrontPage and I'm now trying to move up and get away from FrontPage extentions. So... I'm a little lost with CGI bins and forms. Is there a program that resides in the CGI file that the forms work with? If so, is this something that the host provides? I've also read about FormMail and wonder is this something that I put in the CGI file. If so, do I need to do anything special with the host in setting this up?

Or.. any other suggestions on getting me on the right track? Thanks for your thoughts.

the CGI-Bin is where you put CGI Scripts, the actual CGI-Perl interpreter and Sendmail programs are provided by the ISP.
