Hi
Are you looking for offers or recommendations?.
A bit of both. I am in the need of a new host.
Is http://canaca.com/ a bad host. They seem to be overselling, and dont look liable.
Same goes for godaddy.

Regards to canaca, your best bet would to look on webhostingtalk[dot]com & search for reviews on them. Godaddy havent had a good month (also look for reviews on them) on the above address. If you need any other help please do ask :-).

Is this 300Gb transfer allowance an actual requirement or just an estimate ?
What will be generating the data for this ? Static pages or a lot of dynamic content ?

Most the data will be used on the Dynamic Images. The 300GB allowance can vary. Like currently I need only 30GB but as it grows I will need more bandwidth.

OK, If it's all dynamic images, then I'm guessing you'll be quite CPU intensive, so you'll need a lightly loaded host rather than a budget one.
We'd want in the region of $35-40/month, however that resource would be allocated to your account and not resold to other customers.

For 100GB's of Bandwidth? Well, enjoy the downtime. :P
Kommercial

Is your site established? Very few companies or services actually use 100+ GB of bandwidth.
AvailNetworks
February 17th, 2006, 17:58
Manero,
Do you currently need that much transfer or is that far down the road? If you only need a smaller amount of bandwidth you may want to go with a more reliable/established host and start with their smaller plan and then move up from there and eventually use a custom plan or move to a dedicated server. You can take the 300gb offers for under $50/mo but you will be sadly mistaken if you think they can actually support your required transfer without giving you trouble at every turn
Manero
February 17th, 2006, 18:00
Its not so much that its established, but its like a image hosting site. You can see it at http://www.last-sig.be
The images use dynamic data and update every two minutes, but only if someone views the image otherwise it doesnt update. (caching for 2 min) At the moment around 800 people are actually using the images on forums and their websites. I get only about 100 hits a day and around 800 page views a day. I get around 1000000 hits on the images each month. It currently is using around 20GB a month.
Manero
February 17th, 2006, 18:02
So I can probably go for hosting with 30GB a month and then expand this package by 10GB each month. Only problem is I am not really earning any revenue which is why I am asking for the large package at the small price.

To add to this; Many people start a site thinking their site is going to make a huge impact, when the fact is, it's not. If you think something is new, it's not, someone else has already done it.
A good starter site will need no more than 1 GB webspace and 10 GB bandwidth, which now, you can get for around $5.00/mo.

I was referring more to the established hosts, not your site. You will see offers all over the place anywhere from 2.95/mo to $100/mo for the exact same thing. I was pointing out that if you plan to grow and want something reliable you may have to severely lower your bandwidth requirements or raise your budget and go with a reliable company.
anyone who tells you that selling 100gb+ bandwidth and gigs of space for under $50/mo is not overselling is nuts.
Manero
February 17th, 2006, 18:14
Well at my current host which i have been with for nearly a year offers 3GB space and 90GB of Bandwidth for $8.43 a month. And when I was talking about my site before the post ont he page before asked if my site was established. I do value reliablity over cheap prices but I also have to take price into consideration as my site is not selling a product or service and it is difficult for me to earn money.
I can lower my bandwidth request to 30GB but as I said it will be changing all the time. Most the bandwidth (over 90% probably) is used by people viewing the images through forums and peoples sites.

if you are getting a decent amount of traffic, to earn revenue why dont you throw some ads up on there to gain some revenue. 30gb of traffic can be had for under $10/mo but the whole 90gb of bandwidth for so little cash.....let those hosts die quietly, they will eventually burn themselves out

I did place some ads on the site but got no clicks in two weeks and was getting about 4 cents a click. Getting about $0.20 a month wont help.
but the whole 90gb of bandwidth for so little cash.....let those hosts die quietly, they will eventually burn themselves out

For a change. And because I have two sites currently hosted on the package and want to seperate them so i thought I would try out another company.
AvailNetworks
February 17th, 2006, 18:33
maybe I am still a bit old school, even though I have been around a touch under a year. I generally charge higher than most companies I think, to be honest I really havent compared my plans to many others, never needed to. I think eventually the hosting business is going to drive itself into the dirt if it keeps going the way 1and1 is with the ridiculously low prices/transfer. I know me personally I would love to have far less people on my systems and have them pay more (which i do). The people that pay more tend to have far lower support tickets and in the rare occasion something may happen they are easily understandable and more forgiving. Right now 99% of my sites are business customers paying over $20/mo, server load is at .33...smooth as glass, everyone is happy
and if you are currently happy with your host I would honestly stay. it is hard to find a host you are happy with and can stay with for more than 8 seconds, count yourself lucky
Manero
February 17th, 2006, 18:43
Well I still have three months left of hosting with that company, I just want to open my options in advance see what else it out there. Maybe I should focus more on earning revenue and fixing my site and then look elsewhere for hosting in the later future.
AvailNetworks
February 17th, 2006, 18:50
that I think would be a better track of thinking, and regarding the small revenue you earned from adwords.. it was a couple cents that you didn't have before! :) even the most successful of operations starts with a single transaction
Manero
February 17th, 2006, 18:58
But when hosting costs $10 a month and you are earning $0.25 a month, things dont work out. I only have less then $20 in my paypal. After three months my site will just go down, wont be able to afford it. But I have no clue how to increase CTR.

You really cannot expect to earn a good income from ads, especially on a mediocre populated site.
