I'm planning a new hosting company, and I need some opinions.
Would you pay the following, for the following plans?
Starter - $4.95
100 MB's webspace
3 GB's bandwidth
Basic - $9.95
300 MB's webspace
10 GB's bandwidth
Advanced - $14.95
500 MB's webspace
15 GB's bandwidth (I don't know whether to extend this to 20 GB's or not!)
Custom - $-.--
All plans have unlimited subdomains, email addresses, and unlimited domains. All will be available with cPanel, Fantastico, and many other options!
Any and all opinions are appreciated! They will help me, no matter how negative!

Does this mean you have a reseller plan, or these are reseller plans?
I would say the disk space is a bit low.

It's definately a good host. I've been using them for quite sometime now, and they have had just about a 99% uptime. It was more than 99% for last year anyway.

What do you think they should be?

Ok, this is extremely expensive actually... If you are on a reseller then I understand you :) But anyway, lower the prices not the specs in my opinion.
Make them a few bucks cheaper :) First $1.50, second one $2.95 third one $4.95

Generally, the trend that I've seen is $2.50/GB

Who are you reselling through? Those prices sound like someone overselling.

Example, I am offering 750MB of disk space and 7GB of bandwidth for $1/month. I'm taking a loss on this package, as 7GB bandwidth costs me $1.50 if I include my ModernBill, hosting, and other expenses.

I've currently made these changes.
Starter
500 MB's webspace
10 GB's bandwidth
Basic
750 MB's webspace
20 GB's bandwidth
Advanced
1000 MB's webspace
30 GB's bandwidth
And any of these can be mixed and matched for "Custom".

Hi
The above plans seem fine to me, its also a good idea to have another set of plans for large sites.

I'll definately get them after I get my site going. I don't really expect a "business" type of hosting. I expect to make most funds from just personal use.

Well I own both a reseller and a VPS. But I dont think that is overselling, although the new plans are good.

Honestly, your prices seem fine.
I swear people today are just infatuated with "OMG 20GB/1500GB for $5". I mean, I can remember a time before Cogent and cheap bandwidth. I can remember when RackShack (now eV1) used to actually sell Cobalt RaQs, a time when a P3 server with 512MB/40GB and only 80GBs of data transfer would cost you $150 or more per month, a time when basic 50MB/1GB hosting was still at least $5 a month. (Geez I feel old).
Now I see all these dedicated server offers with over a terabyte of data-transfer for $100 and I ask myself how.
My how the times have changed... and sorry for the reminiscing. :o

On a reseller, here's my advice:
If it's not going to be a full fledge business and you'll rely on the quality of the server itself, (which is perfectly acceptable), pick a space/bandwidth ratio that is realistic and yet advantageous.
Let's say you have 10gb of drive space and 100gb of bandwidth dedicated to your account.
$1 per gb of space and .25 cents per 1gb of bandwidth as a cost ratio, would eventually, when you hit your limit sum up to $35 income per month, when you're filled up.
Sounds low, I know, now think about how many hosts out there are overselling.
Now picture, .01 per mb of drive space and .10 per gb of bandwidth
100*10 = $110 per month earned into your reseller.
Much higher profit range. Question is, do you want to offer large packages or small packages?
If you're paying $20-$30 per month and making $110 per month, you'll easily have room to grow, buy more space/bandwidth, and become more competitive as you start to realize this is something you enjoy :)

Those prices seem reasonable, in the future you'll see what people are looking then you could probably come up with plans that could benefit both you and the client. Good luck :)
