There is no way I would trust a server being run by you.

Anyway plans look fine Jess, goodluck :-) now you can get free hosting from yourself :eek2:. No more request :p.

Free hosting accounts should be stored on a totaly differant server from paid hosting, as abuse on free hosting is WAY higher than abuse on paid hosting. And resellers should also be on a differant server to paid.

But can you offer the support to run this server? I mean will you have 24/7 dedicated support? Or will it be more like 12/5 support, or even less than that? Running a server and a web hosting buiness is hard, and can take time. Are you willing to shell out for cPanel licences? Support staff?

Finally FWS will have some peace, I hope. :)

JesseGraham
February 20th, 2006, 18:27
Yer, i can offer 18/7 Support!
I am ALLWAYS! at home, and bearly sleep!
Plus i have heaps of people from different countrys that are willing to give help support!

And my step brother is a computer technicion!!!

So, yer! i might only offer free hosting, and free reseller accounts!!

See, what you're failing to see it that, anybosy who does a search for "yourhost.com", is going to see this post and find out that you are hosting your clients from you're HOME PC! Do you have any idea how unprofessional this looks? Not to mention that if the clients find out that they can host themselves using the same methods you are using, why wouldnt they do the same?

I hate to sound rude, but, it sounds to me like you are going to end up being one of those kiddie hosts that lasts a month or two, and then ends up giving thee rest of the hosting market a bad name.

I also suggest that you do'nt bother. You cannot offer the support it takes, and you DO NOT have the tech skillz to manage a server!

Just get a reseller plan cheap somewhere and start off with that. Doing it the way you plan is going to end up hurting you in the end, guaranteed!

YeS! I agree with you! and im only 14, and everyone has to start from someware, is that not true!

And i hav e decided to offer free plans ONLY!!!

And you never know! I might engoy doing this :|

oh, am I late ?
Did I miss something ?

So, does that mean no more hosting requests ? FWS is going to loose all traffic and fun now.

If your hosting it from home, have you checked your ISP's TOS? And is your line speed good?

NetCafe

Jess can probably ask his / her dad to subscribe to a 10mbps ADSl or a dedicated OC?

I can't believe this is even a thread.

Jesse,
Where did you get the idea I was going merge :P, also DSL is not fast enough for a server line, atleast a OC1 going in to SONET is a must, and what about Fire protection, AIR Conditioning, 24/7 Montiring, you cant really offer what the DC are offering.

Kris

EDIT: I will help you though, I am really good with servers, and I will even install Zpanel.

Thanx! Everyone!

But this is only for testing, i wont be hosting BIG! pages, i am only going to test it out for now!!

And if i like it, and can manage it all!

I will then pushure a server with the money i have saved!

i currently have about 300-500 in my bottom draw :-P

So yer, and my step brotheer should be coming over 2night i think :-|

And yer, im still not sure if he even knows how to set a server up!
He is a computer technicion, do they do them sort of things???

oh, im at school :-P

In the libary its 8:13 in the morning :-D

Hey Jesse, if you want to hook me up with a free reseller that would be great when you get the server up. ;)

Bruce
February 21st, 2006, 21:01
Well, if it's only free hosting...

C'mon guys, don't you remember 5 years ago when it was all the rage for kids to host people off of their 56k modems in their bedrooms? :p

I'd have some serious issues if you're offering paid hosting from your house though... that's just wrong.

JesseGraham

Like they mentioned though Jesse, be sure to have cooling, if your computers on 24/7 it gets awefully hot. ;-)

Alienware could probably help you out with that, they have some really great stuff there.

(I wish I could turn one of my computers into a server, got a pretty nice computer I don't even use. :P

200 GB HD, 1 GB Ram, AMD Athlon 3500+

probably be a good game server (which I might make)).

XWarriors
February 22nd, 2006, 09:17
If you can get that serverv and I can turn my comp into a server too,I can merge with you it would be about 450 gigs of we put it together

Do you have enough upload internet speed at your home? Because servers use extreme upload bandwidths

Patrick
February 22nd, 2006, 13:45
I would also consider merging my computer... :)

February 22nd, 2006, 14:46
I've never read so much crap in all my life

If you have $300-500 why not buy a reseller and I am sure you could recoup that in a year!

Do not host from home. Its ok being ambitious at 14 but not when you don't have the right equiptment

XWarriors
February 22nd, 2006, 15:05
Um, lol I think your talking about jesse but anyways I already have a reseller
