View Full Version : Free Web Hosting w/Unlimited Space

OK, here are the addresses of two different web hosts who have unlimited space.
http://my.surfzone.at/
http://www.xoom.it/
I am signed up at both. Here is my problem and would appreciate any help anyone can give me.
At surfzone, they sent me a password to use but it doesn't seem to work. Does anyone use their services and what is it I need to do?
At xoom.it, I can't seem to complete my validation. When I click on the link from my email, it goes to a website and then if you agree to their term, you are supposed to click on the accept button and when I do it starts to go to another website, but seems to stall about halfway.
Any help with either of these would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

problems during the signup process can signal a bad host. try contacting the admin or helpdesk at surfzone. as far as xoom.it goes...

Sure you can. You can expect it to have unlimited downtime and even expect it not to have unlimited anything afterall.

Whatever you do don't try Nightsteel (http://www.nightsteel.com). They are slow and everything. Just like phrozen said. You can expect unlimited everything. I'm sure nightsteel do unlimited everything. In fact they don't even have ads on your site. Try Tripod (http://www.tripod.com). They give you 50mb and are fast. F2s (http://www.f2s.com) give you 20mb and used to be good. I heard they are currently improving their service and will be fast again in a few months. Anyway, why do you want unlimited webspace?

Nightsteel is slow because they're hosted off of a T-1 connection. Also, their unlimited webspace is really only 1 gb (which is practically unlimited, but still).

That's what they claim, but it's actually just cable.

nightsteel = cable
They lied about having T1

What he means is hid dls download connection gets up to about 4.5 megs a second or 600k (which is highly unlikely unless he has business dsl). This of coure is irrelevant as in hosting UPSTREAM is what matters and the standard dls account offers about 180k down and 25 k up which is about half as slow as cables upstream.

And if you really want to test your bandwidth check out http://www.dslreports.com/stest

25k upstream is slower than a 56k modem.

:D
at least 25k is faster than 28.8k (20k)

True... but I surely would hate to have DSL or cable in his area with those speeds.

No... no
25kbps... think of it like when you download and it says you are downloading at 100kbps...
a 56k modem downloads and uploads at around 6kbps although you can get upto about 8 with some luck :)

A 56k modem is ~6kBps which is ~48kbps.

f2s is good. Actually I look for a free host with little features and space. Those seem to stay up the longest.
I currently use freehost.nu. They offer nothing but 5mb space but their servers are fast and reliable and they've been up for almost 2 years.

I don't know. I'm to lazy to figure those out, so I just use this (http://www.convert-me.com/en/convert/computer) converter.

I use cable and I've always been fast, but sometimes I have a slight wait. Usually it's when a server is slow. I use an airport (a little computer that takes one connection and turns it into 10 without any speed difference) with my three computers and I can't believe the speed. It all depends on server speed and a few other things.
I had a friend who went up to his Dad's office where there happens to be a T3 line, and he installed Starcraft and the connection was fast. Thank you for listening to my story.
