Have you tried uploading files to it? They now have that disabled, and soon they will delete all your files.

I can log on to their ftp, but they don't even give us permission to delete our own files.

Well, that's no problem for me - I've already deleted all my files there, so my directory is empty.

Maybe everyone should stop using them and use something a lot better like Tripod (http://www.tripod.com).

Tripod has its stupid download pages. That scares away people who use it for warez/hotlinking.

But they are fast. I don't do hotlinking and they also have rad ads. When my site is fully running and people want to download I'll make the links point to another site which means that it won't download off my server.

What host do you use then?

niv

I pay for my hosting.

What do you think is the best free host? I can afford a domain name but paying for hosting is just too expensive.

i think the best free host is t35.com, it has a lot of potential.

I'll check it out.

My free NBCI account hasn't been effected yet either. When and if they delete my stuff off the server it won't bother me. I have it all backup.

Its going to be a pain to re-promote some of my websites that have links in search engines to it.

What do you see in t35.com? They have all the "forbidden" stuff. :p
• FTP Access
• No Ad Banners or Adframes
• Unlimited Bandwidth / Hits!
• CGI-BIN

Bruce

It's not that bad.

No, they don't have banners or adframes, just pop-ups.

T35? Is it that no banners or ad frames mean? lol! I should have suspected.

Bruce

Yeah, t35. By saying theydon't have banners it makes most people think they don't have any kind of ads, but the reality is that they do have pop-ups.

Sure fooled me - at a glance. :D

Damn they have massive pop ups. Tripod's ads are quite neat and its easy to make it fit in with the design.

Tripod deletes all your files then when you try to upload again tehy delete your whole account. Why they dont do that the first time they go on a deleting spree is beyond me.

No you can't upload anything else becuase the service is coming to an end. Don't worry about deleting stuff, they'll take care of it for ya.

Pay to receive all the good basic hosting needs.

FTP
no banner
pop up accounts
free domain parking
lot of space (more than 50mb)
technical support
cgi
more than 500mb bandwith

You will not find a place like this with free service. If you find one, tell me.

The good news is there are some hosts with the above characteristics, and they are not too expensive ($20-$60 a year). Is less expensive than what some peolple spend on video games or computer stuff for a year.

personally, I've never tried T35 so I can't say anything. But, I know the server my site's on is pretty cool. Xism.net has fast server speed and I've heard it has good tech support.
I'm off to edit my site, so see you all later.
