hmmm, same thing happened to me. Only thing is that I registered 3 domains. I have got the notice for 2 (which remained to domainzero's nameservers and info) but the third one, which i have totally modified not to look like DomainZero bought it for me has never got a notice. My suggestions to you, if you haven't alreaady to go into the domain control panel and change all information. Change Nameservers to MYDomain's, change billing info, change everything, (i haven't got an email anywhere!)

When you say, 'about to expire', hopefully you left enough time for a transfer? 30 days is nice, just to be safe.
If the domain is with enom, you'll have to request it be unlocked (email enom), and then you can go to another registrar and transfer it. You are going to have to pay for another year...
