I decide to go with a basic enter page to conserve bandwidth.
Its at http://www.albinotreefrog.net
What do you guys think of it? I think I got everything I wanted to in there.

Definitely looks plain and basic. Doesn't look good though. You can at least color it up a bit more? Won't cost too much bandwidth/load time...

I personally don't like using start pages but they seem to work fine for me when others use them.
I do feel some simple chages can help your look a lot better!
1. Enter Albuno Freebies, make this a very simple graphic using a neat font. This could also apply for your company name on the main page (one after you hit enter).
2. Put the hitbox counter in an-iframe or something. I just feel that those tacky buttons take away from a good design. I know iframes don't work in netscape so maybe someone else knows a different solution.
Also, you must remember that when using online services like hitbox and stuff they will slow the loading time of your page, if their servers are running slow...this is because it takes a while for your site to retreive the button and stuff.
3. On your freebie newsletter form, I would move the "subscribe, remove, and submit" fields below the textbox.
4. As for a bg color...that is totally up to you. The top blue you've used isn't my cup of tea and becuase of this I don't really know what bg color to pic. Just open Photoshop and make a blank canvas and take your current blue and mix it with colors until you find the right combo.
