    coolfreepages.com.. whats the catch?

    It looks WAY too good to be true...
    If it really is as good as it looks then why isn't it as popular as f2s.. claims php4 support for free...
    Anyone know?
    Note notice I tried to sound "nice" to all those criticizing my other recent posts.

    No catch. They have mysql too, but they put a pop-under on every page.

    Hmm... popup might be okay.. they won't mind if I kill all the popups but one on framesets will they?

    Only pops ONE popup for a full 4 page frameset with one iframe and one SSI.. NM SSI isn't supported
    Hopefully I can run a vBulletin forum at least.

    No frames, no SSI, then WTF do you expect me to use?
    I need some way of an accurate hitcounter for one thing..
    For another those table html based sidebars suck .
    Too bad my copy of vB forum didn't work right when I just upped all the files and guessed (I don't have a readme or install instructs lol).
    Oh well..
    I guess its back to Prohosting until I can figure out how to set up vB forum..

    vBulletin has got to be one of the easiest to install. Upload all the files. Edit config.php and put in your sql information. Then just run install.php and your set.

    Hehe... the problem is the "release" (that gives away how I got it) didn't have config or install.php.
    Now you all know how I got it and you know how I'll get a working version.

    there isnt any catch with coolfreepages, i have been using them for about 2 months now and i have had about 98% uptime. the thing is with their PHP is that there are certain php commands blocked like mail(), phpinfo(). there is also a problem if u host your domain, there stupid securing system dont work (their substitute of htaccess) but this can be overcome by some scripts.

    the popup under opens upon every page launch but if u leave once popup under open and browse your site it will not open any more.

    the administrator is pretty leniant toward the hosting so i doubt he would mind you killing the ads in the frames if u email him for permission.


    overall they are a pretty good and reliable host
