    Wink

I just recently got my new PC, but I don't know what FTP client I should get. Which ones do you guys use? I'd prefer it'd be freeware or shareware. All I really need it to do is upload and set permissions on files Nothing too fancy

ws_ftp lite is the only free one that comes to mind that is any good. But you can't set file permisions and such so that wont work for you. ws_ftp pro and cute ftp are both good choices. I use ws_ftp pro, just becuase it was cheaper at the time I think I dunno all I know is that, thats the one I use.

I know you don't want a paid one, but LeapFTP is worth it. Go to http://www.leapware.com/ and check out the trial. I know $30 bucks seems a lot but if you use it as much as I do, it's underpriced .

Some considerably good things I like about it are:
    • CHMOD you just type the number instead of check boxes
    • simple iface, easy to use, uses minimal resources
    • has a feature to keep you connected past session timeouts
    • auto reconnect
    • etc, etc, etc

Correction: WS_FTP Lite allows you to change permissions, if you look close enough, it's there.

http://www.cuteftp.com is by far the best out there. There's a 30 day free trial on the website.

If you are new to FTP'ing then I must suggest you to use FTP Explorer. Its free, very simple to use, has a Windows Explorer like interface and is great for starters. Check it out at http://www.ftpx.com
