They're losing their baseball team though.... Like they really care!![]()
OK, I don't know if there are a lot of hockey fans out there, let alone Montreal Canadiens fans, but I am, and I'm bored hence this post.
Montreal was in tough last night against the defending Stanley Cup Champions, and after losing 3 straight, things weren't looking good. BUT THEY DIDN'T LOSE...they didn't win either, but a point in the standings is a point in the standings. I'm happy.

Check out the Oilers.
We beat the crap out of those stupid so-called Stanley Cup Champions.

Yeah, but the Flames beat the Oilers...actually, I like the Oilers, but they're number 3 on the depth chart. I was impressed with Montreal's efforts though, considering the funk they've been in lately...but it's good to have one of their two injured goalies back. It's hard to win games when you're top 2 goalies are injured and the third stringer really isn't very good. I'm still very impressed with the Flames, it's so good to see calgary and Edmonton fighting for top spot again..it's been awhile.
As far as the Expos go, it's probably good for the players that the team is gone, now they can go play for teams with fans that actually care about baseball. Knowing that the Yankees have a pretty much unlimited payroll, I wouldn't be surprised to see Guerrero end up there.
i am mad they are leaving those teams out. i loved the marlinsOriginally posted by Mandrake

They had a pic in the paper today, showing behind homeplate, and there was about 20 people in the 200 or so seats pictured.Originally posted by Mandrake

They are so gone.
As for Canadiens, I cheer for all Canadian teams. Maybe even Edmonton. Maybe.
Colorado plays Calgary on the 10th. Calgary will so kick their ---.
Calgary is doing awesome this year. 10 2 0 2 . I remember there was a thread a while back and I said that I thought Calgary would win the cup. Well, it's a possibility! How much was riding on our choices?![]()
Calgary's just on a streak.
Edmonton is stable and will overtake them before the midpoint of the season.![]()

They should really have to keep playing until someone wins... if you pay to go to a game, wouldn't you want your money back if they declare it a tie? Who wants to go watch a game that has no conclusion?
Likely, since the Twins compete with the TV market of the commissioner's team. (Milwaukee.) Do any other sports have commissioners who own one of the teams, or is MLB's leadership unique in being that messed up?Originally posted by Blank Verse
I don't know, I doubt the Marilins will go...it'll be the Expos and the Twins in my estimation.
The Twins were the first team in the league to draw 3,000,000 fans in a season. That was 1988. Through 1992 they continued to outdraw the Yankees. Amazingly, when their billionaire owner slashed payroll and turned them into one of the worst teams around, people stopped coming. Ah, better blame the fans for that, contract the team.
The Expos drew decent crowds before the owners gutted the franchise, also, despite never having actually won anything. The former ownership actually racked up some nice profits, by spending nothing. It killed baseball in the city, but since it made them money they didn't care.
The conlusion is the fact that the game is a tie and in hockey, each time gets one point.Originally posted by Hoth

Games are just battles for the war for Lord Stanley's Cup (or all the other championships there are).

So in the Stanley Cup games can a team win the cup with a tied game? That would seem to me like it'd be really exceptionally anticlimactic. Or do they change the rules to make the teams actually stick around to play the full game in the playoffs?Originally posted by Coolin

But for the regular season, the point of the game is to get points.

You can't tie in the playoffs. IF you tie at the end of regulation time, you go on to Overtime untill someone wins....
