    system.ini startup programs

    [386Enh]
    device=C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\dva.386
    device=*vshare
    ebios=*ebios
    device=*vshare
    device=*dynapage
    device=*vcd
    device=*vpd
    device=*int13
    heres a snippet from my system.ini file. How can i find out which programs these link to? i need to get rid of some of them.

    i know what im doing, i've done it before. Now for some reason its using abbreviations for file paths. I need to get rid of some of the crap programs that mess up my memory on startup that i dont need. I know you need Explorer, systray, smreminder and rnaapp, i wouldnt be dumb enough to delete those.

    Go to Start > Run > and type 'msconfig' > OK

    Yeah, also delete the autoexec.bat file... it is a virus and is useless aswell.

    And config.sys. We all know that HIMEM.SYS is an extremely contagious virus.

    Akalon, if only there was MSCONFIG for Win2000, I have to do it manually.

    Oh, and while im here i my aswell ask a few more questions.

    What on earth is the program "mdm" and which programs (excluding "explorer") do you need in the memory to successfully run windows... ie w/o cracshing.

    i think all you need is explorer.exe

    YES, it is. I got it yesterday when I was tweaking my Win2k install. I just stuck it in my windows folder, and now I can get to it by typing msconfig in run. Easy. Now, if I can get winipcfg.exe...

    what does winipcfg.exe do?

    and if you really need it extract it from a win98 cd or something
