I've no idea about the company. The package seems to be good for its price...Originally Posted by ZealousHost
Hi I am quite new to running a hosting service and I am thinking of getting this VPS package from this company;
http://www.webfusion.co.uk/virtual-p...platform=Linux
And my questions are;
1. What are your views on the package and company?
2. Will I be able to install scripts like ipanel and ad forcing scripts?
3. Do you think I would be able to cover the costs for this VPS by offering hosting with ads?
Thanks for reading, any help is appreciated.

Do you know if I will able to install scripts?
it says you get SSH so that means you would be able to![]()
Thanks both of you for your help, just one question left;
Do you think I would be able to cover the costs for this VPS by offering hosting with ads?
That would depend if the sites you're hosting get a lot of hits or not and if anyone clicks the ads. To cover the costs it could take some time so it's best to make sure you can cover the costs for a few months.

A few points I noticed that may help you out:
1. They are using fedora, not suitable for running a web hosting company on
2. No guarantee of cpu or memory offered
3. Price is too high for the specs offered
I would personally suggest start out with a reseller. A vps is similar to a dedicated in that it needs management, if you do not know how to manage a server then you could be getting yourself into some trouble and an early demise for your newly found company.
I have never done free hosting so it would not be fair to comment on it, but like everything else, if you do your homework and put your heart into it anything is possible.

UK VPS/Dedicated servers are WAY overpriced, like everything else in this crappy contry. If you want to make money, get a VPS in the US, it will be 1/2 the price (Take a look at: http://rapidvps.com/ they do a better package than your getting for just £7!!)
Umm, whats wrong with use fedora for a hosting company? Linux is linux, doesn't matter what distribution of linux, bleeding edge or not. Fedora is perfect for this purpose, and you can still use whatever version of the packages you want. (in my opinion, the only os not suited for a hosting company is windows).Originally Posted by AvailNetworks
Anyway, VPSes are great, but only if you know how to use them. Youll probably want some linux or unix experience before you get them. A VPS is almost like your own remote computer, you get root access and install and configure everything your self and anyway you want. It is also very easy to break a vps, but i assume your host has ways of restoring it if needed. (for example, do not do killall sshd)

well if you choose to host your company on bleeding edge software you will be the only one bleeding. linux is not linux, each distro is there for a reason, it is quite obvious by your statements your experience is minimal in that department
windows is not suitable for hosting...what a load

Well thank you all for your input but from what has been said I think I will go for a reseller account for now and when I have some experience then consider a VPS.![]()
Dose anyone know where I can get a good reseller account?

If you want reliable, quality reseller hosting with extreamly good support. Do check out HostingDepartment, like the post above me said. I've had a small reseller with them for months, and they really are the best on this forum.Originally Posted by ZealousHost
