--- Facts & Opinions
1. What is the best billing software to use + How much does it cost.
--http://www.ihostdev.com/ipanel.html I recomend Ipanel $49.95 USD or Ihost $24.95 USD.
2. Is it best to start with my own server first or just be a reseller until my host grows.
-- I would recomend starting with reseller account untill buisness picks up and when you start making profit move to a larger reseller and finnaly a server.
3. How much should i spend/invest into this to start the business?
-- The more money you put into the buisness the more profit will be. i Say £100 a month should get you going with a nice sized reseller a good support script and a billing system athough others may not agree with me.

4. How much profit does your business make? (You dont need to answer if you dont want anyone to know)
5. Is setting up a web hosting company worth the time and money?
-- It is rewarding as long as you have alot of time and money to put into it and i'd advice not to take it on all by you're self you cant offer 24/7 support to you're customers when starting up you'll more than liekly have a job of you're own or be buisy. To offer a good service you need to have some reliable staff behind you.
--- Other Questions
6. What should i look out for?
-- Free hosting unless you're making enough profit to cover the loss of running a free host don't bother trying.
7. Any tips & hints before starting?
-- Get as much advice before you start get a nice looking profestional site up and running with a good domain name have all the billign software and account creation systems up and running before making the site public.
8. Anything else i should know before starting?
-- Just have fun running you're own company and get as much help as you can from the guys around here alot of them have years of experiance in the webhosting industry and they will soon be you're rivals.

Eh? iPanel? If you want the best, go with WHMCS (http://whmcs.com) it integrates easily into your design and works wonders.
I knew someone was bound to disagre with me i only sugest iPanel as it's the one i have had most experiance with athough im shure whmcs is a very good product.Originally Posted by hosting-shack

H-Sphere billing is great. There is no need to buy another service to complete your system.
2. Is it best to start with my own server first or just be a reseller until my host grows.
Best to start with a Buk/Multi Name account and then move into a reseller plan and then depending upon your requirements you may get a VPS or Dedicated server.
3. How much should i spend/invest into this to start the business?
You can get a Buk/Multi Name account for $15 - $20/Month. You need to spend your time to develop your business.

We have a brand new version in testing you are free to try if you want thats 100% new back end code optimized along with everything being coded as a plugin to better optimize the script.
With that said ipanel doesn't claim to be made for PAID hosting providers. It's primary use is for free hosting providers with the advantage of having some paid hosting options in there.
If you are having issues with our product let me know. As the only ticket i have from you thats still pending your responce is not a ipanel issue but a php script issue.

Strange... I have never submited a ticket...Originally Posted by ihostdev

PS; I have nothing to do with the LH iPanel
I took it you did as they have a ticket open with us. Sorry about that assumption.Originally Posted by hosting-shack

The biggest issues were email problems which have been address in the new 2.5 release.

Thankyou everyone for taking part to help me out start my own web host service. I am now half way on starting it. Thankyou again![]()
Just a thought on billing software, don't restrict yourself to a system that only integrates with 1 control panel. If you have something tightly coupled to cPanel, what happens when you want to offer Windows hosting ?
Have a look at www.whoiscart.net this is cheap, fairly easy to customise and can support many control panels & domain registrars.
