    GBuy

I accredit the idea for this topic to whomever just mentioned it in the [most] recent "I Hate Paypal" thread.

GBuy, according to somewhat reliable sources (or mainly just blogs, but they're reliable enough for me), could come out on June 28. How many hosts out here plan to beta test as a merchant? How popular do you think it will be?

I, personally, think the Google brand on anything makes it an instant hit with the Internet population. You don't see many of Google's major products in the dumps. The only real failed project that I liked was Google Suggest, which I now have in my Firefox search box. I think that Google should be able to take a good portion of the current market share from Paypal, especially if they play their cards right with eBay. The first people that will utilize it are those that are most familiar with Google Labs, the overall Internet population. Because of this, hosts are definitely most likely to see good use of it from their customers when it comes out and inevitably starts gaining popularity.

And, of course, the major bonus to us is the expected 0% charge during beta testing and industry-low 1-2% fees thereafter.

    What do you think?

I intend to try it out fully. I am one of those merchants that will not use Paypal at all. I agree with that fact that anything that is branded with Google, would be a major hit.

Google Talk still never replaced MSN, or Skype, whichever they were trying to do, so I doubt GBuy will replace paypal.

It may not replace it, but it could become popular enough to be included in the standard list of commonly accepted payment types: Paypal, 2CO, E-Gold, etc

I would not expect this to happen anytime soon. Like any new software, it will have bugs. People will not trust their money with this untill it is proven to be safe/secure. That is just how the average internet buyer is. I do agree this will become a standard payment method, but it will take many months or years to do so.

I don't think so, after all Google is the "name" on the internet and most people will automatically trust it because it is owned by Google.

GreenHaz, i wouldn't trust that service. GBuy there is a chance i might use it since it is backed by Google. However, we will see in the future how thing go.
