Getting more users

I currently play the game www.knightsdivine.net, but we're sturggling to get more players.
So many games have inactive admins, boring features, and are never updated, but have thousands of players, while KD has extremely active admins, great features, and is updated constantly.

How do you recommend getting more players to the site? Are there any massive forums/websites where we can advertise?
What can be changed to attract more people?
It isn't as much fun when there are only 150 people to attack instead of 1,500...

get your game listed at www.mmorpg.com and then have all your players rate it to raise its rank within their system. Also, if you play other games similar to it, you can "mention" it to players there. I assume you own this game, you may want to use a pay per click advertising system with overture (yahoo) to raise your rank in the search engines too, and use banner advertising to offset the cost a little (starkingdoms.com does this).
