Free hosting providers.....Got to vent
Hello,
I am just wanting to bring up a few points that may or may not be 100% correct in everyone's eyes.
First, if you are offering SUBDOMAIN hosting using your main domain, it is not smart. When a DC see's subdomain.yourdomain.com sending out 10's of thousands of the "Nigerian Scam Emails" or other spam/scam they want that domain GONE!
Secondly, if you are offering a free service using someone elses free service, you can not guarantee anything. What I am saying is - If you can't guarantee your comitments to the original provider or control your downline, you will probably break the TOS anyway.
We had a host today terminated due to the above scenarios. We had no other choice but to terminate (him/her), as the benefit of our customers was on the line. When our colo provider says fix the situation or they will pull the plug, we act quick.
We do not have time to monitor all of our servers 100% of the time, so we do tend to look towards our DC sometimes for help.
Sorry to vent, just felt it would be worthwhile.
Have a great night!

Nice point, people offering free accounts... while using a free provider. You have to agree to the upstrean TOS but i still dont understand why people do it.
Another niggle in my side is people making money from customers upgrading from a free host to a paid provider like hostgator... now this may cause some flaming... but why dont you just support them yourself and reap the benefits over time instead of making a refferal comission?
Rocks my boat!!

Thanks, I re-read my post multiple times and could not understand what was so hard to understand. I majored in Psychology and get that "huh?" question quite often..lol I honestly think I just got a migraine while re-reading it. Anyways, thank you prontohost for translating my rubble.

It's very easy to find which subdomain is sending to spam mail. There is really no reason to terminate someones domain completely.
I use my domain as the sole provider for my free users. I'd done it before, and someone was caught sending spam, and the subdomain was terminated by my host within minutes.

CNLucas,
I understand what you are saying, but I was speaking basically from the DC's standpoint. The first remedy in their mind is to delete the domain spamming, secure the server, and limit it. I was only giving an example, as I have seen this occur and I know it can really hurt a host.

hmmm this does happens with free host, even my host was one time suspended, but now no more, because we have moved & now with better host & also offers sponsorship too, without forum posting too.
