Exclamation What are the best Very Large Forum Hosts

I have a client with me and I am looking to outsource the hosting of their forum as it is too intensive for our servers. The forum gets about 1,000,000 page views per day with over 1,000 users online at any one time.

Can you recommend some hosts. I have tried using godaddy but they have a 150 connection limit, this causes many problems when a large number of visitors are online.

I look forward to your recommendations.

    Regards
    Andrew

For that, I'd recommend a VPS or Dedicated Server.

Andrew, I'd recommend a dedicated server for your client, try somewhere like SoftLayer for a good deal. Just look around.

I'm going to guess you've set a price with them and it's too low to shift them to a decent dedi, as the DB hits alone would need a decent one.

What outsourcing cost could you take on it?

Nope, not at you MCT @ 94mb Andrew, sounds like the outsourcing might not be budgeted for in the client billing

I have told the client about the problem (not that they will be out sourced) but said that they will have to upgrade there hosting so budget is not as much of a problem.

Whats the cheapest server that I will be able to confortably host this site on? I have been looking at:

Dual Quad Core Xeon 5320 1.86 Ghz - 4GB ram
Dual Quad Core Xeon 5310 1.6 Ghz - 4GB ram
    Xeon Quad-Core X3220 2.4GHz - 2GB ram

Would these be about right? Could you recommend something. Also, i have not come across dual quad before, does that mean 8 cores?

Can anyone recommend a reliable, cheap place from which i can rent one of these. I was thinking of using hivelocity, does anyone know of cheaper? Maximum costs would have to be less than $250 per month.

    Thanks again

$250/month should be fine Andrew, but can you manage it - as in a fully managed server?

With that traffic, I'd guess again it's quite important to them and you.

Dual quad cores is essentially 8 cores yes.

Is there anything else that would be important to them? Speed to certain locations for example? Maybe certain times of day require heavy throughput?

What would approximately be the maximum users online at any one time (in a forum) that each of the below servers could confortably support. The client has said that if they are upgrading, they want to be able to significantly expand the site once they have done so.

Dual Quad Core Xeon 5320 1.86 Ghz - 4GB ram
Dual Quad Core Xeon 5310 1.6 Ghz - 4GB ram
    Xeon Quad-Core X3220 2.4GHz - 2GB ram

    Thank you all again.

The Dual Quad Core Xeon 1.86 will outperform all of the others.

More CPU to work with is always better

Has anyone ever used geekrack.net there dedicated server prices are amazing, almost too good to be true. Nearly 45% cheaper than hivelocity and I thought hivelocity were a good deal.

Can anyone give me some feedback about geekrack.net. I am considering signing up for there quad core 2.4ghz deal for $125 per month. Are they a reputable company.

    Thanks in advanced

I'd do a "search" here as well as on webhostingtalk.com for reviews
