MyGHosting.org has ripped me off and now he is gone...

    Hey there,

I am sure this is in the wrong section, but could not find a good place. Right then, so last week June 27th, I spoke to Catlin the owner of MYGHOSTING.ORG on MSN and via email. He offered me a good deal on a server, this was before I had read his feedback on this site. So I had paid for the first month, before I paid his site had a 15 day money back if I was not happy, his site seemed very good and well done. I did an IP trace and he came out clean with being hosted with SoftLayer. Any who, it was 48 hours and I had yet to recieve my dedicated server, so I told him on MSN that I was going to cancel because it was taking way too long. He said that it was SoftLayer's fault. I contacted SoftLayer and they told me they don't have a reseller by Catlin name or by his company or emails. So I went and canceled, at that time he had removed the 15 day money back image and from his Terms of Service. I did the cancel, and the day before he had told me on MSN that if I had to cancel, I would get the moneyback. He also told me it cost $200+ to cancel a dedicated server, I am not sure if that is true or not. Anyways, I have filed a PayPal dispute on him for a total of $42.99. He has not replied to it in 3 days. PayPal told me that if he does not reply within 10 days, then they take action. The email on his PayPal bounces back to me and his phone on account doesn't work either. Surprisingly, he has not been on MSN since then and his website is now suspended, SURPRISE!!! This is a warning to all, I am sure most of you know, I am not sure if this is all a scam or what, but I am going to get my $42.99 back. You bastard, you can run but you can't hide!!!

    Thank You

P.S. I have the whole MSN conversation with him, all of the 4 days I spoke with him.

If you seen the post that I made then you also must have seen that he gives out a softlayer ip to ping but he was either not giving the servers out at all or giving out Burst.Net servers.

In any event I hope you get your money back and go with a host that has been around a little longer.

Yes, I decided to stay with my original host, VPSLink. Luckly he never got any of my information, it was only done through PayPal. Funny thing is this, when I do a WHOIS, he comes up with being @ SoftLayer, which is why I believed it. I didn't know he was with a free reseller company: http://whois.domaintools.com/myghosting.org

We can only hope for the best and that PayPal will come in with this.

It looks like they're 'pulling a GeekRack'

The bad thing about PayPal items is they don't support virtual items, so if you've put that you ordered virtual items, your screwed

    Good luck anyway

I never mentioned that it was a virtual item or anything, just that it was $42.99.

This is exactly why I don't understand why anyone would do business with a one man shop when there are plenty of reputable companies available out there.

This is also why it will increasingly become harder for one man shops to attract customers.

Personally, in hosting I have always recommended big firms and have only subscribed to big firms. In fact, unless the purchase is small and one time and not something that is vital to my interests I only deal with companies that have phone numbers and physical addresses posted on their websites (with exceptions for companies that have been throughly vetted by others).

I figure if someone doesn't bother setting up even a PO Box for their company and/or doesn't invest the $50 a year it takes to get a toll-free 1-800 number for their company, they aren't serious about business and should be considered "fly by night" operations.

Not fully true for some people, like I, who can't affoard another $50 for a phone number or a PO Box. I do provide a fax and a personal Skype phone that transfers to me. Not all "one man host" are like him. There was a reason for why I decided to go with him, of course I now know the truth.

If you can't afford a $50 for a phone number or PO box, then you don't have sufficient cash flow to run a serious business. I understand everyone has to start somewhere and not everyone who runs on a shoe string budget is trying to scam people, but I would definitely avoid doing business with such operators as a precaution.

As for you, I would recommend hooking up with some more reputable dealers in the future and follow my guidelines. Not saying you won't ever have any problems if you do, but it will definitely eliminate 99% of them.

Where are you getting these $50 1-800 numbers from?

I had one and it cost me more than $50 in one month!

Because he's told so many lies, stating that he runs many huge businesses etc, so someone who hasn't done research on him, thinks he is a good guy. That's the point of a scammer, to be beliveable.

OP: I hope you learned to do more than a whois on a domain before buying a server from someone.
