Do you identify yourself as a tester to the host before signing up for their free accounts (assuming it's all free accounts and you don't pay for any), and get their approval to do this and use their resources/support beforehand?
Review the Host is a web hosting review blog that will give you the know how about web hosting companies.
What we do?
We go through web hosting companies and use them for a month, we then review all the pros and cons about the company and tell you the experiences we had so you know whether or not using the company is a wise choice.
What content will there be?
We will provide information about companies and what new things they are offering, coupon codes so you can get the latest discounts and also reviews from us explaining our experiences with companies.

That would defeat the purpose dont you think?
If you mystery shop someone your meant to be sent by the company itself to monitor performance internally.
Everyone seems to be doing this nowadays, so how much hosts time and resources are they wasting to 'test' & what return if any will a host get?
I think it's inappropriate to place yourself in the position of judge and jury, maybe all hosts should visit their hosting service, sign up and see how they perform first- will you have the time to be tested yourself inspiritnetworks? Or would you rather spend that time servicing 'proper' clients?

To be honest, although the concept is okay, there's only one person that can give a proper review and that's the main clients themselves. A company trying a server out for one month isn't really the best way to gain enough info for a review.
You'd have to create problems on the server purposely to see how the tech team resolve it etc..

and it should be done by clients not by a web hosting provider owner/tech.
Kthx, you have no right at all to judge other hosting companies since you have your own...
From what I see the site is posting your own ads on every page. Will you review yourself? Also, some of your affiliate links are not working.![]()

No, My aim is to review companies that I had been with, I do go through online reviews and find out what others have said about a company so that I can produce a whole "research" based post on the service that others have received from these providers. I, myself am not judging web hosting companies but am going through companies and finding reviews made by people to come out with a honest answer to whether the company can be trusted.
On terms of my own company, Inspirit Networks, I am focused on that as well but reviewthehost.com is just something to do on the side.
Sorry if you got the wrong idea
So on what basis do you go on in picking what hosts to "Use" for a month and review?
Also, is it just free hosts you use or do you sign up for paid services? If the latter, do you also ask for a refund at the end of the month so you can use that money to "Review" the next victim?

I think the idea is good; but It would be hard to trust; mostly due to the fact that you are a provider yourself.
I do not think that a provider should open a review company; because essentially they can get a little carried away, and end up pushing their own services more. Not trying to bash, but I'd end up doing it as well -- almost anybody would.
The idea is good; but it has a bit of work.
