I'm basically dead
So yea, I've noticed.
I have noticed they these past few weeks the P2H communities are slowly going inactive and members not coming online.
I am the founder of TheWebWorld and I yes members aren't active as much but we are trying to keep it active and it seems to be working.
What about your other guys?
Have you noticed the inactivity on some of P2H?

I have seen more and more requests saying they no longer wish to post for the free hosting. It looks to me as people really want free hosting nowadays with no strings attached - no posting reqs, not ads, etc.

Maybe they go with paid hosting since it's cheaper and cheaper each day.
My forums are also dead too.
Mine are also, users are now requiring it with no strings attached due to the stupid hosts that do this with crazy offers like 30GB Space. Jesus.
The freehosting market is broke these days.

Feeling the effect`s ourselves over at SR, recently suffered a phishing attack and a ISP block on a shared free hosting IP.
The global ressesion is not helping much revenue streams are down 40%
The posting is down about 20% per week but traffic to our main site is remaining the same at around 10,000 unique visitors per month.
I predict its gonna get worse for all of the free hosting providers and paid hosting markets.
The advertising market is not doing too well.
Lets not get too down about it, lets think it as a another challenge! Think about how to get new visitors to your sites? broaden your horizons....

There are just so many hosting company's now giving away free hosting with out the P2H requirements and so many cheap company's that they can't be arsed to P2H. You need to ask your self would you? I know in the past before selling hosting I would never do it, had much better things to do with my time.

There are other ways of achieving an active community other than P2H
+1 to Bamb's statement about the arsed partHowever, those people will soon learn the hard way that absolutely free is not aways better

I do both and people sign-up for free accounts 50:1 post-4-host accounts and I don't think I have that huge of posting requirements, just 5 to start. People just look for the easiest way to do things, but I think participating in a community is a great way to learn new things.

P2H is dead. Ads on user pages are dead.
Long live free hosting with no ads on user pages!
The industry is changing. We all must adapt.

I am really not a post fan, especially in forums that have 5 posts, all from the admin, but want you to post 100 times to get hosting. Gets old talking to yourself.
I also am not a fan of posting in forums that have topics that I have no clue about or simply do not interest me.
I dont mind ads, any size, as long as I could place them. I do my best to design a site where a banner ad can be placed cleanly. I realize that ads are a source of income, but the forced ones that clutter a site turns me off as well.
What I wonder, is why do these new companies pop up with 1gb space and 100gb transfer with no ads/posts? Do they not do any research and feel like wasting their money when their host suspends them for overselling?
