It would depend on the provider. A provider providing 1gb of space at $1 may not have the best support or service as they have to cover billing, support and servers. A quality provider of 1gb space would normally be 2-3x $1, so $2-$3.
Some providers also offer a free domain name if you pay annually, so that is something to consider.
