The best way to gain customers in my experience is by word of mouth from happy customers. Which means it quite hard for new companies to gain clients.

Erm... I would say, this is really how I grow my host when I just joined here.

1. Provide a great service. Be available to answer enquiries. Excellent uptime. Don't have to promise the earth but have all of the basics like cPanel hosting and some of the bells and whistles.
2. Discussion Forum is quite helpful as other Freehosters can pitch in with helping with support questions. And it adds traffic to the Website.
3. Get the name of the service listed on FWS Directory - as well as a few other similar directories out there
