The problem is, now we are overloaded with those free hostings which is giving away ridiculous amount of space and bandwidth, another word, extremely overselling.
And after 2 or 3 months, the close down.
Because of people are tempted by these free host, they choose these free host rather than go for paid hosting.
And when these host close down, they also making an impression that paid host are also the same.
This has caused a lot of hosters unable to sustain without much struggle.

It is very true that is market is now overloaded with kiddie hosts that can easily buy a cheap VPS and expect to make money.

Sorry to burst there bubble, but it actually takes work and planning to do that.

Even after a couple years doing hosting, it still can be hard to attract customers...but you have to keep working at it, it'll pay off soon enough.

Its hard to know/see for sure if you got to do with a kiddie host or a hosting from an -----. You can see it a bit on how they write stuff, but not 100% for sure.

At least those who are using VPS, still consider they do know a bit about Linux.
Most of them, are actually either using those cheap reseller hosting, or some reseller accounts they get from some P2H forums.

This is the Backend purpose of my host study project - who has stuck around for long enough that your Upsell Fee is a bonus, not the only thing paying their light bill.

I am no one special - all I did was accept hosts who wanted to prove uptime daily, without "uptime tricks" like the newest trick, CloudFlare. Yes, at times y'all laughed at my creaking design. But what I did do was narrow down two hosts who in my mind have *qualified* for Paid Upsells, ignoring all the marketing in the world. Those two are Seraphim Labs and Decker Services.

I admit, I do know there are some good free hosts in this forum.
From what I observed, these good free hosts are usually those who didn't offer ridiculous amount space and bandwidth.
And most of these good free hosts, do have paid hosting services to sustain their free hosting servers as well.

I am just unhappy with those kiddie hosts who claim that they can offer "unlimited" space and bandwidth, and they even dare to guaranteed that they have 99.9% uptime, while they are actually hosting the users website only on a reseller hosting account, where they don't even know how high is that server's uptime...

Last thing I'd thought, I'd be in any position of influence. Usually I am rather scattered. But this time, for once, I stuck to my goals and drilled out my eval metric. Sure, I expect there will be a bit of snarking, but software side all it takes is "How long has your host been open" vs the user name, and if any new entrants deserved Up-Ranking.

From where I am it took me two years of study work, literally open to all, to find ... TWO... hosts worth an upsell paid fee.

To be honest, I am really glad that you have started this project on observing which free hosts deserve to be trusted.
At least, those who did follow up with your study thread, will know which free host to choose.
It can somehow reduce those "My free host gone!" type of post appearing in this forum, if users did read about that thread of yours.

Well, I wasn't thinking about the advertising part. Maybe the offering does allure users to buy off the premium, but that's a big but...

Thank you all for your opinion.
