I think that advertising a package plan the word bandwidth is used incorrectly at some websites. example 125mb landing page. the free plan states 5 GB's Bandwidth. I seen other site state the same thing. So when you reach 5 gig your account gets suspended. So if the same plan stated Unlimited Bandwidth the account would not get suspended. So sometimes the term bandwidth is referring to the amount of data that has been transferred. So there could be an unlimited amount of data transfer? correct? Just the transfer rate can not be unlimited. 99 kps would take longer to transfer 100 MB of data then 1 mbps would.

ttb62: Your statement goes against the definition of unlimited. If there is ANY type of limit be it size capacity total transfer number of connections ANYTHING then its not unlimited!

is data transfer different the bandwidth? I believe it is different. now I may be wrong but bandwidth is the rate of data that is being transferred per second. yes that is throttled by the bandwidth. Be it the clients ISP and the servers ISP. data transferred is the total amount data transfer in a set amount of time. yes if the bandwidth is not as broad then it will take longer. But if I am allowed to transfer as much data as I want "unlimited" I can only do it at the speed the bandwidth allows. It is throttled down by bandwidth. I can still have a unlimited amount at that speed.

OK I see what your saying now if the bandwidth was full bore, wide open then in thirty days I could transfer 16 TB, but since it is restricted by bandwidth I could only transfer 8 TB in 30 days.

Correct. Your bandwidth/transfer are always restricted in some form or another. As I said, unmetered bandwidth is definitely possible, but there are still limits involved.

Yes, they are different, but the majority of hosts simply use them interchangeably. They normally refer to bandwidth when they really mean transfer, or data transfer.

Space is really not totally unlimited but there are servers that can be 100 terrabytes, which if you offered unlimited hosting would technically work but the spans would be so large that you would have severe latency. Plus the larger drives are slower.

A host would never be able to afford a server with 100TB array in the first place. But there's still a limit. That limit is...you guessed it...100TB. Not quite "unlimited" is it?

You should really ask them how is it possible to use that much bandwidth.
