Good website design always light on the user, structure of the information, the information types and finally how it is formatted. When you create your website, it should be looking as simple as possible. Put simple navigation as much as possible. When someone find your site it should be easy to find for them. Your website layout and design should be look reliable on all over the site.

Web design is a one time process as opposed to web promotion. You can look at your competitor's site to get an idea how to design and what to add in your website. If you want more output then elaborate you question further.
