    Genius-Hosting

Before you ask ~ Yes, I have done a search for posts on Genius-Hosting already.

Does anyone have any experience with these guys. I am happy with the owner, Thomas, but I was just wondering if this is normal:
I opened my account on 4/2/02 (Tuesday). I finally got it up and running on 4/9/02 (the following Tuesday). Well, on the 10th (Wednesday), I received a e-mail from the owner asking me to switch my dns to a different server. My site is high-traffic and they knew this. I'm paying $45.00/month for 50GB of bandwidth.

Well, I was promised if I changed dns quickly, my site would not go down. I changed the same day (Wednesday). Well, my site is still down $45.00 and I only got 1 day out of my site since I started on 4/02/02. Is this normal? Do you think they might have a problem meeting my bandwidth needs as they promised?
    Where did my sig go?

sannie...I know nothing of this co. but hopefully they carry some sort of guarantee? A 13 day "wait" isnt what I would call normal!
I would definitely be trying to contact their support to see if you can get some much needed help?

Well I've seen a few of their customers at WHT before.

The CEO of Genius-Hosting also frequents WHT.

Thanks, Martie and yes, Bruce I know Thomas posts regularly over there. That's why I decided to post here. I don't want to alienate him. he's a really nice guy. But I just want to lnow if I should forget about my $45.00 and move on.

I guess I need a stable host who can meet high bandwidth needs. I also have a site on http://www.phenominet.com and I have nothing but great things to say about them!

I am also a happy customer and affiliate phenominal internet solutions.

I'd say wait 3 months after a host springs up before joining as a rule of the thumb.

Thanks Archbob. I guess I saw 1GB for $1.00 and got starry eyed. It won't happen again. Next time I'll wait or go with established hosts.

$1 for 1 dollar is not realistic. I'm paying $60/year for 100mb and 10GB transfer, its been great so far. more than half of all webhosts die within the first few months, so thats why you want to go with an established one.

Well, I'm paying $19.99/mo. to Phenominet.com for 30 Gigs. That comes out to 66 cents per gig. Why wouldn't $1 be realistic?

$1 for 1 gig could be realistic, depending on where they get their bandwidth from.

If their main provider is Cogent, then they are probably paying about 50&cent per gig.

Genius-Hosting's main provider is Rackshack. I think they're getting about .25 cents per Gig.

guy, you are giving away 60gb transfer for 10$
    but rackshack doesnt
but u r hosted on rackshack
    100$=400gb
    10 $ = 40 gb
    but you give 60gb
and if you only host 6 people, you will lose money
    how does this work ?

    Hi Murat,

We actually have 6 servers (bringing more online in next few days)... The way we can offer 60 GB is that we spread the higher-use site across the servers evenly, and then with hundreds of other smaller accounts (using like 0.01 GB/month) we are able to remain profitable even with this huge amount of bandwidth.

Of course, if more clients start using their full allocation we are prepared (have extra empty servers just ready and waiting) and will re-balance the load appropriately. We are happy to tell you that we really only had to move a small handful of sites to another server because they used the 60 GB (this was when we just had one server and had clients on there -- We bought server2, moved larger sites over there to balance out, etc. You get the idea)

Please let me know if you have any other questions!
