    New name for AMD's SledgeHammer

    Now known as Opteron.

    Rhymes with Celeron to me...

    Find out from http://www6.tomshardware.com/cpu/02q2/020424/index.html .

Yeah, finally AMD is gonna strike back. But Intel is going to release a 2.5ghz processor next month I think.

Considering AMD's current top speed processor kicks Intel's best and even exceeds it most of the time Intel releasing something new won't do anything to affect the market and AMD's continuing take over of the market.

I did some testing with dual processors for making builds for programming and not to burst your bubble giancarlo but we used dual Amd athlon XP2000+ and dual Intel Pentium 4 2.0ghz and the Amd were lagging big time, they were both Gateway computers built at the same time and both went through the same installation project and were exactly the same except for the proccesor and motherboard. Which I think were Tyan motherboards. Pentiums got the build done in half the time and the Amd froze once.

You didn't know about that. WinXP 64's RC1 on the same day WinXP was released.
They mainly plan to put it on the server line first based on the Itanium processors from intel.

Then why does AMD exceed Intel in this area in most tests? I think Gateway is being paid off or something by Intel to make its AMD machines not so good. It is a fact that AMD's top processor defeats Intel's top in most tests. That is undeniable. And Intel is so unworthy because of its poor speed and horrible pricing. No wonder why it is losing its market share.

AMD is nonetheless faster no matter what you think. All the tests show it. And Tyan isn't what I would call a great motherboard.

Giancarlo, how about you stop being such a jerk, I guaruntee gateway is not making there athlon computer slower, that is rediculous and absurd! You are so defensive of your own opinions be a little open minded to the fact that Pentium beat AMD big time in one test, maybe not all but just ONE! Tyan are good motherboards, and even if they aren't so great then it is both dis advantages for pentium and AMD.

No offense, but I haven't ever heard of Tyan.

Only Gigabyte, Soyo (Crap), and some others like ECS.

The Pentium defeated AMD in one test, in one game while AMD defeated Pentium or at least matched (well defeating it in most cases) in all other games/programs/application processing.

Intel sucks because they are expensive and slow.

I will agree that Pentium is over priced but you know what, they are still good, never the less AMDs rock

Tyan motherboards are mainly used for servers.

I truly feel sorry for you if you'e never heard of Asus, Abit, and MSI--three of the top motherboard manufacturers.

Okay that is the reason. I don't run a server.

I used Asus and Abit. But I forgot to mention them. Doesn't mean I haven't heard of them.

    To everyone building a computer:
Oh and by all means stay away from Shuttle. I got a museum of old Shuttle Motherboards. My friend has a newer one for his AMD Althon, that stopped working.

Alright... alright... but I like looking at what AMD has on its site for tests... benchmarks, etc. I would check it out.
