Thread: OH NO, Gizba Seems Dead!

    OH NO, Gizba Seems Dead!

It all started when they shut off signups. Then, the file manager wouldn't let me perform any functions. Then, the file manager wouldn't even let me log in (it kept returning the error, "Disk Quota Exceeded," but 40 mb isn't anywhere near 500 mb!). Now, it seems as if all Gizba member pages have been replaced with advertisements! So much for Gizba being better than T35, so T35 is now my best hosting option when they finally turn FTP back on (which amelen says should be sometime today), unless there's another free host that offers 75+ mb webspace (I want "unlimited" space, and to me 75 mb storage is unlimited), unmetered transfer (nothing's more annoying than a site being down for bandwidth exceeded), 135+ kb file size limit, absolutely no top inline ads (they'll ruin my beautifully crafted frames; any other type of advertisement is okay though, be it pop-up ads, pop-under ads, bottom inline ads, or frame ads), allows .wav, and has no gay interstitial download pages for .wav files. Oh yeah, Crosswinds.net is no good because they're too darn slow, I'll only use them as a last resort. For now, I'm temporarily hosted on Freewebsites.com until either T35 or Gizba gets fixed, but I don't plan to stay on Freewebsites for long, because they only offer 50 mb space, and my site is now using 41 mb.

http://www.freewebspace.net/forums/s...threadid=25922 You could ask for the 150kb file size limit.
-netDB owner of the Futurama Sound Hut, offline til someone hosts me!

I already tried them, but they don't allow .wav files to be uploaded at all. Don't suggest zipping my file either, because I don't want to piss off all my site's visitors and make Cyberryan's South Park Sounds Haven a disliked sounds site by forcing my visitors to save the files to disk and unzip them before playing them. I don't know about you, but whenever I go to a sounds site like that, I just immediately leave. I'd rather host with Crosswinds or discontinue my site than do this.

If you only (or primarily) have IE using Windows visitors, rename to .wave.. it will play, it will work, just not compatible with lots of other browsers/OS's.

I have 870 .wav files and it would be annoying to rename each and every one of them to .wave and update all the links just to use a single host that I'm not even sure I'll stay on.

Anyway, Gizba member pages are visible again, but their file manager still won't let me in.

    Hi,

are your only reqs is 75 mb space and no inline type ads? did you need any scripting features? oh yah, you need .wav files to be accepted. that all?
If you don't change your direction, you may end up where you were headed.

I don't need any stupid server side scripting BS, I don't even care if I have to upload via browser, I just want 75+ mb webspace, unmetered transfer, 135+ kb file size limit, .wav support, no top inline ads (all other ad types are okay), and no gay interstitial download pages for .wav files.

    alrighty then

You can try Bravenet's free web hosting.

    The page says:
Banner Ads (it says banner ads, but i have been getting only pop-ups )
    FTP allowed
    100 Megs Storage Space
    600 Megs/Month Bandwidth Limit
    20 Megs Daily Bandwidth Limit
    MID files allowed
(so i assume .wav files are allowed too)
If you don't change your direction, you may end up where you were headed.

but 600megs is probably too little for him.

Yes, HostingExtreme now supports .wav files and he's bumped the file size limit up to 140 kb! Hopefully, he won't announce transfer limits (unless it's 1000 gigs like 9cy's "limit" is), I'd hate to have my site down for bandwidth exceeded.

Yes, it is true that I don't want a 20 mb daily transfer limit - I already know about the "many 0catch webhosts" that offer 100 mb webspace with 20 mb daily transfer, so if I wanted to host with them, I'd be there and probably have my site down all the time (I don't know exactly how much my site uses, because it's a pain in the butt to monitor hits to all 1003 of my files, only 130 of which are HTML pages, but I'm fairly sure it would break that limit). Yes, it would probably be like this URL, http://www.geocities.com/bdawgnaz/ which has a 99% chance of flashing the annoying Geocities error "This site has exceeded its bandwidth allocation," and it was once one very good sounds site until Yahoo! got greedy.

Do you know what a pain in the --- it would be to edit all the links if I had to change hosts for the .wav's as often as I have to change free hosts!? I'd have to individually edit all 880 links. Plus, what if the server that's hosting the .wav's is down? Then my site would look stupid. Also, many free hosts don't allow hotlinking, and I can't use a storage host because they'll hit me with interstitial download pages, which would piss off all my site's visitors and make Cyberryan's South Park Sounds Haven a disliked sounds site. I will NEVER do something gay like this.

Yes, once I did split my site over several accounts (back in the days my .wav's weren't MPEG compressed), and that gave me a headache! That's an experience I'd rather not repeat.
