    Question Pie in the sky?

I'm looking for a truly 100% free host with

    (1) No ads
    (2) 10-15 megs of space
    (3) allow http streaming of mp3's or windows media files via .m3u or .asx links respectively.
    (4) FTP access

What I want to do is set up a website for my band so people can click on links and listen to low quality (56k modem) streams via .m3u links. (I could use .asx links with Windows Media Format files, but then I'll be eliminating most Macintosh users. Windows Media Player for Mac is STILL in beta and still sucks.)

I tried to do this on web1000 but even though they CLAIM to support http streaming, I sure couldn't get it to work. I think it's because they don't allow any kind of downloading unless its from a direct link on your webpage there. But when you click on an .m3u link it opens up Winamp which then tries to retrieve the .mp3 and they interpret that as being an attempt at an offsite download.

Then I tried webavenue.org but they've got some kind of points system where you have to accumulate 2000 points by playing their games or posting to their forums or else they'll shut you down.

I'm looking for a truly 100% free ride with no worries like I used to have with freedom2surf before they shut down. Are hosts like that gone forever? If I keep looking for pie in the sky will I keep getting mud in my eye?

Just tried Freecfm.com. It doesn't seem to mind .m3u pointers. But I can't get music to stream reliably. A 32kbps 11khz stereo .mp3 file which ought to stream reliably over a 56k modem stutters and halts even over my DSL line.

Not to mention the fact that after I got all signed up they sent a message that their FTP was unavailable to free accounts for the time being while they do some sort of "upgrade".

I will keep looking til I find a free no ads site with FTP that doesn't choke on http streaming! Is that so much to ask?

Thanks for the pointer to host.sk

I uploaded my site there and the music streamed flawlessly. I don't know why so many people have complained about it being slow. I'm located in Southern California and I was able to upload mp3's via FTP at a more than reasonable pace and then stream them back via HTTP with no stuttering. That's all I need!

FreeCFM on the other hand still stutters when I try to stream mp3's from them.
